Show Desktop Button

Hey :-)

Greetings from a really nice little distro. But I still have some little troubles with it.

For example: When I press the Show Desktop Button, my panels disappear and I can't control anything... only solution - but to let the machine crash down - is to rightclick and  restart openbox..

How can I fix that ?

Re: Show Desktop Button

Hi distrofit. I'm not a member of the development team, but I have a workaround sollution for you. I'm getting the same issue with the Show Desktop button. It is actually called "Minimise all windows", if that makes any difference, but I think that it considers the taskbar as a window or running application and so it minimizes it as well. You don't, however, have to restart openbox to restore your task bar and running applications.

In the right click menu you will find an entry for Desktops. There will be a sub-menu for, say, desktop 1 and desktop 2, and another for the list of running applications. Click on any application icon and you are back in your running session. The task bar will still be missing, although it will now show as an application called (panel) in the same sub-menu.

Alternatively, you can use the cycle windows option, i.e. Alt-Tab. On first press of alt-tab you'll see the list of running applications. After selecting one you will find that the application window is restored, but the task bar is still missing. On second press of alt-tab you will see a generic application icon in the list. That is your task bar. When you select it the task bar will be restored.

I think the "Minimize all windows" app needs to be tweaked to force exclude the panel (task bar) from the list of running applications. If I was a coder I would be doing it now wink

Re: Show Desktop Button

It's me, distrofit lol... I just forgot my passwords... so back to topic:

I see you are really deep into that "minimize me" problem big_smile ... how did you find that single points?

And where is the bugfix now? Is there nobody else, who is annoyed by that ?

Well, show me that piece of code and let's try to fix it somehow

Re: Show Desktop Button

I think it has to do with the lxde slitaz profile, which is creating problems

Start lxpanel with the default, lxde profile, and I believe it will solve that problem (and a few other ones).

Re: Show Desktop Button

I found this old post on the peppermint forum dealing with, but not resolving, the same issue.

So what I can gather from the user there is that he reconciled himself with the burden of losing the panel when "minimize all" is hit.  Hmmmm

So, following on from there, one way of getting the panel back is to right-click the desktop, and under the "desktop #" submenu you'll find the list of running applications. Select one from the list to restore it. Secondly, repeat this step, i.e. right-click the desktop and go to the "desktop #" submenu. You will find that "panel" will now show in the list of running apps.

In the same peppermint forum post Eric2 suggests,

Or, you could just use the already in place keybinding to toggle Show Desktop, which is the Windows/Super key + d

. This works in Slitaz too.
