Hello there...
I am a Puppy users that would like to test Slitaz. I do not have a CDrom, so my only option is to either slash out som files on a partition and then pick it up to boot by using Grub4dos or to make a bootable USB memo stick. I tried the ones from PendriveLinux, but something goes wrong during boot as kernel panic... Its when its supposed to "set root" or something near that...
Anyone got any tips on how I can try it with on the above mentioned methods? I have Puppy Lucid and WinXP to use as carrier of any solution.

Hello,
I had a similar problem as you. I used unetbootin and got the same Kernel panic. Then I made a USB-flash with the dd command. This worked well in most cases. Just the actual RC2-iso doesn't work with dd because it's not a hybrid iso.
So you can use the RC1, the RC2-loram, or the actual rolling iso. Probably the last version will fit best to your needs.

The most up-to-date version is in the "rolling" Directory.

Thanks for the good answer Sebastian... I shall try the rolling release as I guess that is the best thing to do in order to see if Slitaz can fit my needs.
You might be the one to just tell me that. The reason Slitaz was not for me, was simply because there was not simple way to get virtually any USB mobile modem to work without getting into stuff like command line...
Is there any reason for me to try out Slitaz now or is it still ignoring mobile internet?
Almost all distoes, from Puppy and upwards, sort of has a intuitive graphical interface for this and uses USB_modeswitch...
This is the reason I wanted to look at the new Slitaz, as I could not just figure it out and there for lost interest...

I have the same question. Is there a way of installing SliTaz on a USB key with persistence when one does not have a CDrom drive available?

As I don't have any USB mobile modem, I don't know much about using and configuring them. Generally much changed in Slitaz about configuration. There is now the "Tazpanel" where you can do most of configuration tasks.
And if you don't like to use the command line. What about the dd command? You are familiar to it? Did you already manage to make your USB-flash work with Slitaz?
If not here is a short introduction:
Change to your download-folder with the iso-file
# dd if=slitaz-core.iso of=/dev/sdx
"if" describes the name of the iso-file. "of" targets the drive, from which you want to create an installation/live media.
Thats all! Make sure that you write the correct drive (sdc, sdd, and so on)! The dd command will delete everything on the drive!

I am still waiting for the download... I have a mobile internet connection with 100kb/s. This is why its not really interesting to get into anything that does not support things like USB_modeswitch and a intuitive interface for connecting.
There is a big gap between the world here as ALL internet is mobile in the parts of the world where the contributors live, so they think all have wireless broadband and xDSL connections. This i huge shame.
In an hour I know if this is going to work or not. Takes me one hour to download the ISO, due to my slow internet:-(

There is no intuitive gui tool for setting up USB cell modems in slitaz 4.0
To attempt to get it to work your going to have to use the command line.

Well, I also covered it for non-standard devices like mobile phones @ http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/problem-with-internet-dial-up-gprs-edge . Not sure how to set modules loaded at boot in SliTaz 4 though.

@TazPup - MultiBootISOs v2.1.5.2 ("obsolete" tool from PenDriveLinux.com) uses GrUB4dOS.

For those that got a Grub4dos boot system, a little help on how to boot without a CDrom might be just this thread I made at Puppy Forum, after receiving awesome help at #slitaz, the IRC channel from nice guys.
