Afternoon, all.
I've switched to Slitaz-Rolling, from Slitaz 4.0 (as suggested a couple of months ago), and I must say I'm quite pleased with it.
What I'm NOT so pleased about is the fact that the new package manager doesn't appear to do as good a job as the old one. I've installed many of the same packages as I had before, and half of them just simply don't seem to work.
Mainly, and specifically, Iron. I've used this because I'm a Chrome user of long-standing.....and I can't make head or tail of how you're supposed to get hold of Chrome, OR install it (and this despite trawling through the forums for quite some time now). Iron will install without any problems.....but when you try to use it, not one page will actually load; everything 'times out' after about a minute or so.
Can anybody give me a step-by-step 'tutorial' on how I can get Chrome installed? Sorry to be such a 'noob' about this, but I WAS warned that using Slitaz would be like learning Linux all over again! (lol)
How right they were.....
Regards,
Mike.

iron-linux runs on my full install of rolling.
The iron-linux.desktop file needs edits so the shortcut appears in the applications menu.
Open sakura terminal as regular user.
Type
iron
Hit Enter key and it should launch.
If it doesn't launch there will be an error about missing file it depends on.
Find the package that owns the missing file and install it to provide the file.
[c]tazpkg search-pkgname <filename>[/c]
Fix the menu shortcut:
Open terminal su to root.
Type
[c]leafpad /usr/share/applications/iron-linux.desktop[/c]
Hit Enter key.
Edit/save so it looks like this:
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=Iron Web Browser
Exec=iron
Terminal=false
Icon=iron
Type=Application
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml_xml;

Hi, mojo.
Strange thing. As I stated in my original post, I could get Iron to launch.....but upon trying to open any page, they would always 'time-out', with 'This page is unavailable'. Never occurred to me to try starting it from the terminal, I'll be honest with you.
But having started Iron (from the terminal), it's now behaving itself....and everything works as it should. Very odd. (Unless, of course, this is another of SliTaz's little 'quirks' that I need to be aware of in the future..!) Although, having said that, I do recall, now, that I've had to employ a similar approach to getting apps to launch in such a way that they work properly, in other distros.
I'll have to remember this for future reference.
Thanks for that, anyway. All up-and-running, now.
BTW, the Menu shortcut WAS there, from the start, so.....that wasn't a problem. But thanks for the tip; it's appreciated.
Regards,
Mike.

Whooops! Spoke too soon; I can access SOME pages....mainly various forums I use, including this one. But most other pages (INCLUDING the Settings page...*grrr!*) won't load.
I've never come across this before, with ANY other browser I've used, over something like 30-odd years of using these things. It's a wee bit frustrating, to say the least.
Don't suppose you've got any ideas?
Regards,
Mike.
