I the new iso slitaz-rolling-core64 at http://download.tuxfamily.org/slitaz/iso/rolling/ from yesterday start with difficulty on my laptop needing an Intel 915. X does not appear but it is possible to enter Strg+Ctrl+Backspace fast 6..8 time and console loggin is offered. after loggin as root / pswd root, make directly a tazx and reactualize the frisch started system. after that, the graphic mode is available correctly.
the new installer seems to be a "fausse-couche"... he hardly requires a cdrom but I will offer him no one as I use no CD/DVD and no USB key are they are terrible for the environment: the iso is in /root ! but it doesn't accept that logic...
(the old presentation of the installer was better: the user has had an good overview, here, you don't what will happen, if somewhat happens...)
what kind of packages can rolling-core64 accept? real 64 bit ones or 32 bit or both?

after interchanging the user "tux" for "oui" without passwd, the alsa-player seems to be reserved for "root" and I get no sound. it is only a problem for me if I look my daily new at http://france2.fr/jt/20h (it works very well in tazweb or xombrero! but now, only as root! before I did change, it did also work under "tux").
the problem is, that the user management seems don't to give access to all classic modules and that it is not possible to set up the user-UID correctly. I did erase tux in the panel, tab settings, user, but recreate the standard user "oui" in commando line using the option
adduser -G users -H -u 1000 oui
this did give "oui" the place of "tux" in a big part of the hierarchy but not in all :-x
after that i did chown -R the /home/tux in /home/oui of course. it seems to work in all encountred functions excepted sound.

my problem is that the slitaz partition is only for slitaz and settings. in fstab I did mount my /dev/sda5, 600 GB as /home/oui/big to accede to my doc's and all that what I have on the PC ;-) ... owner is in all my linux versions the user-UID 1000:100 !!! I need to have that access... it is a ko condition to use slitaz :-(( ...

with the old panel installer it was no problem: it did give you the possibility to free define the user at installation's time, the old versions also without password, the intermediate versions with passwd...
the actual passwd command accepts to let the passwd empty and you can loggin so, as well as "oui" or as "tartempion".
no sound is reason to have to surf as "root" and it is not really recommandable!
all this changes was not really a progress and the result is not happy! please, give us the old panel installer back...

next problem is the spell checking! I don't know if you all are best writers in you mother tongue or in the international language(s) you are using on the web. myself, i did never learn English. in France, my country, i did learn at school Latin and Greec and forget them ( :-)) ) and German, my actual family tongue. And I did learn a bit of Russian (I can think in that language, but only in my version of it with my reduced vocabulary. as young man I did have accustomed me to do that and never forget this beautiful tongue)
without spelling dictionaries, is my writting really evil!
and I know that it is a really common problem
slitaz offers aspell and a lot of aspell dictionaries. but in which app's are they really useful?
firefox? chromium / iron? lo / oo? tazweb/midori?
that would surprise me strong... i know that the check spelling works very well in xombrero (also a webkit derivate) but with
hunspell...
but where are the hunspell dictionaries?

next problem
in the not manupulated system this time (I did manipulate in a separate copy in a separate partition):
localhost:631 will not work
but if i understand correctly applications > internet >> local web server >>> page http://localhost/
that appears, there are starter only for
- busybox HTTPD confg
- LighTTPD configs
and also in /var
I can find nothing concerning cups...
(but concerning alsa: in /var/lib/alsa!!! probably is my problem in the other manipulated (also smudged) installation under user "oui" that: the localhost doesn't allow "oui" to connect the alsa files in var/lib)
a/ what is to do to activate localhost:631 or create a symbolic link for it for "cups"
b/ where are the users for the localhost registered?

I did reinstall the base of Slitaz completely fresh.
-following all as root!-
And I did at first try to install my printer. Cups was not preinstalled. I did install it and cups in Slitaz installs gutenprint.
After that, not problem to install the printer :-))
I did link /home/tux in /home as /home/oui (ln -s /home/tux /home/oui) and create a subdir "big" in it). Then I did link "big" in /var/www (ln -s /home/oui/big /var/www ).
Then I did install xombrero and did test it.
Entering
file:///home/oui/big/links/mydoc.html
this command opens mydoc.html
've add it to the favorites
xombrero restart, require favorites and select mydoc.html it does not word
next test:
open mydoc as http://localhost/big/links/mydoc.html
this command also opens mydoc.html
've add it to the favorites, this time not as file:///...mydoc.html but
as http://localhost:.../mydoc.html

and restart xombrero
this time success: localhost is able to open that. The localhost works.
Now I test my printer. Not possible... no toner :-(
Try to install my second printer re-using applications > system tools >> manage printing
error: "Could not connect: Connection refused"
Second trial, this tim through http://localhost:631 in tazweb: same error message.
why?

to be honest - I have also troubles with printing in SliTaz - our printer now hangs on the Odroid U3 which runs Arch.. so evrybody has to send the files to this computer and has to print it there....
but try to kill all cups and cupsd and start cupsd new

all my problem did come from the group management: the user, each user, get rights for divers activities; see
# sudo tazpanel
and then, first commando line, 5th option, «Settings» > «Groups»
you will see a table of groups, actually 27 groups in my installation, with 3 columns «Group» «Group ID» «Members»
an each members get access or not to each of the groups or not...
and at the feed of the sub window actually opened, a field «Manage group membership». where you can add or remove each user of each group (a lot of group!!!).
but there is no special group for cups / localhost:631 but only for all "www".
perhaps is this communication not clean as under menu Applications > Internet >> Web server >>> SliTaz Web Server, Index of, only 2 members, Busybox HTTPD confg : /etc/httpd.conf and
LighTTPD configs : /etc/lighttpd
are actually included.
The management of group membership in that management field is really tedious (but I don't know the command to do the management the groups manually: list the groups, list the member of groups, add user, delete user).
as I did delete "tux" for "oui", i should have delete "tux" in each group before! now the user name "tux" stay in she group. but the user-UID, existing for "oui" seems not to be used in the management of the groups so "tux" can't be erased any more: there is no "tux" any more under the users the it is not possible any more to delete it's "shadow" using such a tool...

Cups web interface is a standalone web server that is part of cupsd.
The user must add cupsd to RUN_DAEMONS of /etc/rcS.conf to auto-start cupsd on boot.
Cupsd must be running to connect with web browser.
If cupsd is dead port 631 is closed.
Verify cupsd is running:

No number output it is dead.
Try to start it as root:

As I have installed a lot of software, I was afraid to upgrade my installation.
As it was a relatively long ago, I did try it today: 680 packages to upgrade.
But...
...tazpckg refuses to do it.
a/ what is to do to recuperate the list of the installed packages
b/ what is to do to reinstall completely fresh under use of that list of installed packages as it is a terrible work to select them manually?

I have a lot of installed packages too. I even don't know it's number! 
According to /var/lib/tazpkg/installed.info they are 772. And according to /var/lib/tazpkg/installed/ they are 738 (I wanted to manually remove some folders from here after I loosing all the "receipts" here due to the one nasty bug in the developed script).
It is very interesting. Please tell more, how you make the upgrade: by using TazPanel or by using tazpkg in the terminal? What the errors you're encounter?
Personally I always have a small free disk space (less than 1GB, or more less: now it's about 200MB free in the /). And I can't upgrade all that packages at once because packages cache will grow and will fill up all the free space on the disk. So I opened TazPanel, then Packages page, then Check for upgrades, then I checked about 50 packages at once, upgrade them, then clean the packages cache ([c]tazpkg -cc[/c] in the root terminal is the simplest).
Theoretical answer to both of your questions is: repack-config TazPkg command. Packaging that special package you'll save your current settings and current packages list. Next you can install that package on the clean SliTaz and to restore your setting and all the previously installed packages. Note, in addition you need to manually backup/restore your [c]/home[/c] folder and any of your own folders/files not included in the SliTaz packages.

Thank you very much Aleksej for those infos.
As I did reinstall on my partition to have somewhat provisal to work (a minimal new install), I can't repeat the procedure to update without to interchange the old and new content. If it is important, I can do that, to get the exact error messages, but I would prefer don't to have to do that as each installation can cause loose of data!
I did reinstall twice:
- yesterday
- and today! What a difference!!!
Grandiose backgrounds in the today version... Gratulation!
But also deceptions:
- in both (yesterday and today): impossible to accede to localhost:631 ("connection refused") as well as the start in graphic mode needs brutal interventions (Ctrl+Alt+Bckspace a lot of time until the box opens and login in CLI is possible, then tazx and reinstall xorg for the intel chips...)
- in the today version: flash plugins does not work any more.
So I will continue with the yesterday version to work, but I will not erase the today version immediately (is on a separate partition where the old installation did be until yesterday). If questions, I can restart it easily...
Question from me:
What is to do to add the beautiful 3 backgrounds (slim background, main background, background from tazWeb) into the yesterday version ;-) ?
Note: I always install xombrero as it is very small and react about as firefox would react (the adaption in SliTaz is about perfect). It offers the old background inchanged! If someone will work at it, pls take also this thematic under consideration: http://www.greycoder.com/anonymous-linux-distributions/ . I am certain that also SliTaz can especially in combination with xombrero give a great anonymity comfort to the user and would stop addons!

today I did check, not, better, remake my new installation from yesterday.
cups is not preinstalled and I did install it.
after that, it was possible to install one of my two printers, the color printer Canon PIXMA iP4200.
but it was not possible to install the laser printer Brother SL-2035.
To install the second one, it seems to be necessary to install a *.deb package from Brother having the name brhl2030lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.deb.
To do it, I did install the SliTaz package dpkg.
The command
«dpkg brhl2030lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.deb»
did have no success: the system claims «dpkg: error while loading shared libraries: libselinux.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory»
where can that library be found?

First you have to convert the package .deb into a package .tazpkg ; just type :
#tazpkg convert brhl2030lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.deb
then
#tazpkg install brhl2030lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.tazpkg
Pehaps you'll have to install some more packages.
