Tazpkg converting problem with .tgz

I'm trying to convert and install FBReader, which is an e-reader application. I downloaded a file called fbreader-sources-0.12.10.tgz and tried to convert it after signing in as a super user:

tazpkg convert fbreader-sources-0.12.10.tgz

Then I got this message:

fbreader-sources-0.12.10.tgz does not look like a Slackware package!

Does anyone know what I can do to make tazpkg recognize the fbreader package? Or does anyone know how I can unzip it and install it some other way?

Re: Tazpkg converting problem with .tgz

Because you're trying to convert over a source archive that's compressed to tar.gz which is not a slackware (or any distro) package.

Maybe try this package I just converted over from the debian files: http://www.box.net/shared/utj7tercoz - you install it with the tazpkg install command. It's a collective package, meaning I put all the data and lib files you need into that single package. So you don't have to go around looking for the requirements or having to install like 4 other packages just to use the first one.

EDIT: Yeah, I just noticed that my host doesn't allow files bigger than 1024Kb or 1MB >.> - So it's on my box.net account. Enjoy!

Otherwise there is a fbreader package on cooking  (http://pkgs.slitaz.org/cooking/utilities.html#fbreader), which works fine on V3 stable as well.

Lol and I only see it now hmm - Anyway, I included liblinebreak which isn't in SliTaz Stable either.

Re: Tazpkg converting problem with .tgz

Hi, i'm brazilian new user slitaz. This distro is fantastic otherwise its size. I downloaded blender 2.58.tgz. My problem is like desert-dweller one. Does exist some way to convert .tgz for tazpkg or to install tgz in slitaz?

Thanks.

Re: Tazpkg converting problem with .tgz

My answer stays the same. You cannot convert over the source code tgz archives (which is a gzipped tar archives like tar.gz) into a usable package. The only way your going to turn source code into a program is to compile it using slitaz-toolchain and the right collection of *-dev libraries. There is no way around this except converting over packages from other distros like Debian or Ubuntu. Even then you'll have to convert over some of the requirements too.

Ultimately, it would just be easier to use the blender provided by the package manager or to wait for somebody to package the latest copy of it.
