from 3.0 to 4.0rc2 on a floppyless cdless usbless netbook

hi

Is there a way to upgrade fromt 3 to 4.0 with tazpkg via web?

thanks

Denver

-----------------

-----here why----

-----------------

I'm using since a couple of weeks 3.0, fully intalled on hdd, on an old dell that has no boot capabilities apart from reading his hdd.

3.0 works nice.

As I can't boot nothing, I extracted the kernel and the rootfs from the iso to use them to boot manually with grub with these steps:

> root (hd0,2) (the partition where I extracted the files of the iso

> kernel /path-to-that-files/vmlinuz-slitaz-xxxxx  root=/dev/null

> initrd /same path/rootfs.gz

> boot

.

In this way I booted and installed 3.0 on the hdd.

In the same way I'm trying to test 4.0rc2

4rc2.iso has four rootfs (rootfs1.gz, 2 and so on), but none of them bring me to an X server. Only the number 3 bring me to the console.

entering rolling field:

core.iso has one file rootfs, but ends up with a kernel panic.

4in1 has four rootfs ... so no way to boot with grub

cooking.iso (of the last year!) bring me to a fully working 4.0 from where i used slitaz installer to upgrade the previuous 3.0 installed on the hdd, but didn't work.

The same happens with a new installation of the 4.0 from that very old iso.

Not on Slitaz 3.0 , but upgrade/Install Source Web is an available option on tazinst/Tazpanel Installer on cooking/slitaz 4.0 RC

I have not tested it.

Description of  upgrade from http://tazpanel:82/installer.cgi?page=upgrade

You're going to upgrade an already installed SliTaz system on your hard disk drive. Your /home /etc /var/www directories will be kept, all other directories will be removed. Any additional packages added to your old Slitaz system will be updated as long you have an active internet connection.

Re: from 3.0 to 4.0rc2 on a floppyless cdless usbless netbook

hi, thank you for the answer.

in the release notes i read:

"

From 3.0 to 4.0

A SliTaz GNU/Linux installer offers an update function allowing you to upgrade from a '3.0' to '4.0' version. To upgrade the system you first need to boot the 'Stable' LiveCD, launch the installer from the command line or Tazpanel, select upgrade and then specify the partition or configuration file containing the system that you want to update. The installer will then clean out the system and reinstall all the packages not present on the CD from the mirror. When this has finished you can reboot with your new version of SliTaz.

"

there, the Stable LiveCD is the 3.0 one? or the future 4.0 stable? if so, I could wait for that.

In case I'll still blocked I'll try the set-release function of tazpkg

To upgrade the system you first need to boot the 'Stable' LiveCD

The 'Stable' LiveCD will be Slitaz-4.0 after it has been released.

Re: from 3.0 to 4.0rc2 on a floppyless cdless usbless netbook

hi

I changed the repository from 3.0 to cooking with set-release

after the upgrade and the reboot I have the openbox desktop

- there is no icons (in tazweb, on the desk and so on)

- lxpanel doesnt start, error:

netstatus-icon.c:193:netstatus_icon_init_pixbuf: assertion failed: (*pixbuf == NULL)

how could remedy?

thanks
