Hi i've noticed that mapserver, gdal, geos and other gis related software has been recently added to the repository and thought that would be great if you could add Quantum GIS (http://qgis.org/), a complete desktop GIS software. It's quite big with all its dependencies and all but as i checked many of them are already in Slitaz repository.

Also when using mapserver it gave this error:
[c]/var/www/cgi-bin/mapserv: error while loading shared libraries: libpq.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory[/c]
The libpq.so.5 library is in the "libpostgresqlclient" package, maybe should be included as a dependency.

Thanks a lot for this proposal. Yes, of course, GIS is quite a brand.
Did you/could you yet try it out? How big at the end would be this ,,GIS Desktop"? My point is: how big in terms of occupied space it is does not matter much.How much RAM it takes when running is more important.

I use QGIS in regular basis for work because it's one of the most complete and user friendly FLOSS GIS desktop applications i've tried. I don't know how much disk space it uses because it needs many dependecies and i can't "weight" them all but i would say 500 MB including GRASS and other stuff. In RAM it may need about 100 MB just opened without any layers loaded.
Yes, it's huge in relation to Slitaz but again it's very complete and more if you consider external user/organisation plugins.
If size is an obstacle there are some "lighter" alternatives:

Thanks a lot for this proposal - but keep in mind that most likely neither you or me will be able to make it ,,fit" intot Slitaz without proper help of the trained developers.
The size is not the main obstacle, most likely. As long as it does not consume too much RAM while working it is an idea; it will never be a normal part of any slitaz installation anywayy. Just for those people who work in geosciences, geographers in schools and universities. But it would be great if we could come to the point that this would be possible under slitaz. As in this case one may do it with older computers, let us assume 500 MB RAM, not more, and moderate speed. This means: not only in the rich part of the world. Would it be possible for you to list the dependencies as good as you can and show it here?

I'm from Argentina, certainly a "non rich part of the world" country, but even here if you are using a computer for work in geosciences you most ikely have at least 2 GB RAM. Anyway with 500 MB, work can be done as long as you don't load too many layers. I'm aware "it will never be a normal part of any slitaz installation" but thought it would be useful to have it at glance if needed.
QGIS, uses CMake for building from source.
