i would like to know something (don't worry it's not about an unsolved problem..) :
i'm not talking about distribs, but about desktop environments :
gnome, kde and other has their own wireless network manager
i mean: why is there not in slitaz/lxde?
a little window, like in kde which is asking for just an essid and a key, and could list networks, connect to them easily, even not with a conf file..
just a little windows.. could it exist on slitaz?
like to make a extended-desktop on an external screen, i have to launch a little app which makes it easily, not a part of slitaz, but it's working and easily than windows's configurator
i thought for wireless it could be a very good idea. that's why :
- an interface doesn't afraid the lamba-user, a file to fill, does
- an app, like network manager in kde, does not asks for the root password.
On linux, using wpa_supplicant/network.conf by command line is only allowed by root
deal with the network.conf/wpa_s is only for advanced-users, lambda does not generally wants to know how to configure it: they just want to give the software the key of their network, done
i'm using arandr for extended-screen, working very well, a software like it must be made on slitaz.
hope this thread will be liked, to hear common-people

Latest lxrandr seems may work with extended-screen
I'm talking only about Slitaz 5.0 (RC4, weekly, rolling)

an intuitive interface for lambda users?
they maybe don't want to know how to manage essid, interface, key type...
just a wifi name and a key to enter in a box? (not in a text file)

I'll tell you more.
See, in the http://tazpanel:82/network.cgi page you'll find three buttons:
[*][network.conf] (it's not for lambda users)
[*][Ethernet] where you can configure your Ethernet card
[*][Wireless] where you can configure your Wi-Fi
Choose between [Ethernet] and [Wireless] and click. Simple, right.
I suggest you to click [Wireless] button.
Oh, unfortunately only root super user can configure Wi-Fi on the SliTaz Linux.
But it is not a problem :-) "Rooted" Android smartphones are cool, and "rooted" SliTaz is cool as well! :-D
Do you see a little green "man" at the top right? Click it, don't be shy.
Now it asks you about user name and password.
User name is: [c]root[/c]
If you not changed password belonged to the root user, then —
User password is: [c]root[/c]
Click OK.
Oh, one detail. If you typed user name, then don't press Enter to move to the Password field, press Tab or click mouse pointer into Password field (it is not a SliTaz issue, it is just this web browser realization details.)

My congratulations! Now you're root, and can configure networks. Let the force be with you! ;-)
Click here on menu "Network", then "Wireless".
If network is not started, click "Start" button (Wi-Fi started on my hardware in a boot time.) Wait a bit.
And now here you can just (as you wanted before) click on the Wi-Fi network and type password. OK. Then wait for connection (about 10 seconds on my hardware). That's all, you're online. Click "refresh" button to make sure: in the Wi-Fi list you'll find "Connected". That's all.
