Installing Midori 0.4.4 on Slitaz 3.0

I downloaded midori-0.4.4.tar.bz2

to my home area and wrote in a terminal:

su + password

then

tazpkg install midori-0.4.4.tar.bz2

and got the output

cpio: Unsupported cpio format, use newc or crc (+4 more lines)

Help for this newbie would be appreciated.

Re: Installing Midori 0.4.4 on Slitaz 3.0

Midori 0.4.4 comes with Slitaz 4.0.

I don't know if Slitaz 3.0 have all necessary dependencies for latest Midori.

You need to compile the package or convert a deb/rpm/arch package.

Download https://launchpad.net/~midori/+archive/midori-dev/+build/3296865/+files/midori_0.4.4%2Br4695-0~natty1_i386.deb

Switch user to root

su -

and

change directory where midori was downloaded and type:

tazpkg convert midori_0.4.4%2Br4695-0~natty1_i386.deb

After conversion

tazpkg install midory.......tazpkg

Hope this will help you.

Tibi

Re: Installing Midori 0.4.4 on Slitaz 3.0

Wonderful! Installed it.

However, upon restart, I cannot launch Midori from the tray icon, nor via the Spider -> Internet -> Midori (there are now two Midori icons there, the other being "Midori Private Browsing" - none work). Is there another way to launch it?

I seem to have two packages in my home area:

midori-0.4.4+r4695-0~natty1.tazpkg and

midori-0.4.4.tar.bz2

What may I have missed out on here?

Open a terminal, type midori and see what errors appear.

Midori 0.4.4 requires you update libwebkit and other libraries it depends  on before it will run on Slitaz-3.0

Looks like maybe Gnome dependency hell has just struck?! sad

I hope not!

Things were smooth when I ran the Firefox 11 binary with Puppy, after replacing some libraries in /usr/lib with the same ones that are in the /firefox directory.

Have fallen back on using Firefox (11.0) instead, which incidentally works great.

@mojo

Which method do you recommend to find out which libraries (with what status) a program needs?

With ,,ldd <path-to-program>" I see those libraries, but one cannot see which libraries the program did not find/could not use.

If your answer is strace - how do you filter then the huge mess of output to select the meaningful data?

Re: Installing Midori 0.4.4 on Slitaz 3.0

What I did to get Midori working again was to go to the Package Manager, click on Midori 0.4.4 and then on "Upgrade". That installed Midori 0.2.4 again, and it works as before when clicking on the Midori icon in the tray.
