Install Slitaz to dual boot with Win 8.1 x64?

Hello,

I haven't been back in a while, but would like to install Slitaz again (probably the rolling release from the front page, BTW will there be a Slitaz 5.0 soon????? Should I wait for that?). My system is made out of the ASUS A88XM-PLUS motherboard, AMD A10-7850K APU, AMD R7 265 GPU, 16 GB RAM, and Samsung 850 Evo SSD, with an existing installation of Windows 8.1 x64.

Are there instructions for installing Slitaz x86-64 for dual booting with my existing Windows 8.1 installation? Thank you very much!

Hmm, Windows 8.1... Your computer is relatively new, isn't it?

Can you boot from a LiveUSB? If not, check in your setup if the UEFI mode is activated. If yes, try to disable the Secure boot; normaly it should be possible (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/09/22/protecting-the-pre-os-environment-with-uefi.aspx) but some manufacturer (ie acer) lock this feature.

If this is the case, the only way will be to disable the UEFI mode, re-install Windows 8.1 and then you must be able to install SliTaz (and GRUB for dual boot).

Thanks Ceel for your reply.

Yes I can boot from USB with or without UEFI, though Windows 8.1 was installed with UEFI enabled, so I guess if I install Slitaz it will have to be under UEFI, too?? I prefer not re-installing Windows unless I really need to!

Hi avamk,

Seems the Secure boot is not enabled if you can boot from USB with UEFI. So maybe you can do a dual boot.

Good luck and let me know. At this day I've always had computers with Secure boot locked in UEFI mode.
