Packages in Slitaz seem very old...

Hello,

I haven't checked out Slitaz in a while, and I recently spun up the live slitaz-rolling-core-64 image in a virtual machine to see what the cutting edge is. It certainly seems much better than the Slitaz 3.x I used in the past!

However, many packages, such as Thunderbird, are really old (Thunderbird is still at 17.x). Is this generally true for Slitaz packages??? Or should I be trying the 5.0 RC3 instead? BTW, is there an idea on when 5.0 will be released? Thanks!

Slitaz is late on those fast-pace-releasing softwares like TB, FF, Java... This is because updating the repo needs some work, the forces are limited, so stuff like this is no priority. Plus, Slitaz is oriented to "small" machines and these softwares are typically "big".

There are get-* scripts to download and install from the official sites: FF, LibreOffice, Java...

IIUC, 5.0RC3 is typically the cooking version frozen at some date when it was relatively stable. So RC3 cannot have more recent software than current cooking has.

Because we still have the old toolchain and base libraries. NUFF SAID.
