- lxpanel doesnt start, error:

netstatus-icon.c:193:netstatus_icon_init_pixbuf: assertion failed: (*pixbuf == NULL)

how could I remedy?

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

Try:

1.) tazpkg get-install slitaz-icon --forced

2.) tazpkg get-install slitaz-icons --forced

I'm not sure which naming convention it's using these days hmm

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

hi thanks

I already did it

icons are there, in usr/share/and-so-on

but with lxappearance they dont appear, neither on desktop, lxpanel, pcfman...

it seems that icons are empty, I try with 3.0 ones

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

Try this:

root@slitaz:/home/tux# tazpkg reconfigure gtk+

Then this:

root@slitaz:/home/tux# gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/hicolor

root@slitaz:/home/tux# gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/SliTaz/

Command should output:

gtk-update-icon-cache: Cache file created successfully.

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

hi mojo thanks

i-ve reinstalled slitaz-icon-1.2 and all other icons sets

i-ve reinstalled libpng too

the command u suggested gave the correct output

icons are still missed

lxappearance gives a lot of error trying to load the icons: unrecognized image file format

if I try to open any image viewnior says that the location contain no image

I did it again and commands didn't exit with cache file created successfully

just ends to prompt

with -f appended to the commands gtk-update-icon-cache it says for both sets cache file created successfully

with -v (validate) says nothing

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

hi rd, don't worry

I apologize but xterm doesn't give cut&paste

the first says g_module_open() failed for /usr.../loaders: /usr.../loaders.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

the gtk command says that cannot load immodules.so : no such file or directory

than

doesnt export GTK+ IM module API: /usr... cannot open... no such file

update-mime ends at prompt

thanks

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

In between, xterm DOES give cut&paste. ;-)

a) select the text with left button,

b) go to where ever you need to paste (forum, xterm, etc...),

c) middle click.

And that's it.

Happy slitaz

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

@denver: sorry i miss something ... open folder /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders and you must enter one by one file

#gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-ani.so

.. enter next file in that's folder ...

do the same on file in folder usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules

nb: You can highlight the existing sentence and then click the middle mouse to copy-paste in xterm

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

See if icons appear in pcmanfm if you login to x session with slim login manager as user root.

Pcmanfm manages the desktop icons/wallpaper.

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

no, no icons even with root access

pcmanfm is running (top says with -d option)

neither in root session, nor in tux session icons are there

from terminal I can see a never ending list of images (the icons) not recognized

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

Close pcmanfm if it's open.

Open xterm:

pkill pcmanfm

pcmanfm

Does Xterm report any errors?

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

no errors, neither if I execute pcmanfm, just no icons and no desktop image

if I launch lxpanel it says unrecognized image file format

another strange thing is that even if I set on the kernel raw (in grub) lang and kmap an if I set it again as root, it doesn't remember that settings in X;

in the console lang & kmap are ok

if I try to open any images with viewnior it says that "the given locations contain no image"

I think that the problems are related to gtk settings

i renamed .gtkrc-2.0 and now lxpanel loads, albeit without icons

pcmanfm has icons after that... (still manage desktop without icons and wallpaper)

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

there are many other things that don't work (tazpanel for instance)

so if none needs any test I'll give up to reverse to 3.0

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

Because httpd needs to be started correctly for TazPanel to work. I personally think it's a bad idea to upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0RC considering the 2 year gap between the two (and all the changes done between them). I had similar issue upgrading Ubuntu, so I've got in the habit of backing up my home directory and then just reinstalling everything instead of going through all the trouble fixing upgrade issues.

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

hi trixar

I agree with you.

the only problems is that the only files working on that laptop are those from 3.0 (I can't boot isos, cd or usb)

none of the 4 works (I tried almast all rootfs.gz!)

thankyou anyway

i tried to upgrade because I like sme things in the new relaese, but I can use as well 3.0

Re: from 3.0 to 4rc, missed icons

Hi !

That is curious ... all the time i made time to time a backup from my HD installation, using tazusb writefs lzma.

The advantage, i was able to boot frugal from the image to experimentalize without destroy my hd installation. all the time the image works just like the hd installation.

Yesterday i changed some GTK+ and theme settings. Since this change i get now the same lxpanel error if i want boot from a created rootfs.gz image.

The hd installation still works perfect.

i can get lxpanel to work on the frugal boot with

gtk-update-icon-hicolor

gtk-update-icon-SLiTaz

but not all icons are restored ....  and this doesn't solve that writefs made corrupt images ....
