3G Mobile Broadband Via Sakis3G Worked Once but Now Fails!

I tried to get Mobile Broadband working using Sakis3g as suggested by Trixar_za on his web page.I selected the 'for cooking' option. It did work but only on the first occasion. Subsequent tries to get on the net via 3G failed.

If I follow the process it appears to connect...all indications are correct and positive but fails to find a server.

The really unfortunate part is that I also lost my wireless connection.

Does anyone have a solution, please?

I'm using an eeePC701SDX on most recent/updated 4.0 RC4?......I could do wireless before download of Sakis3G.

@plumtreed: since update Slitaz to 4.0 Release Candidate, I'm not using Sakis3g anymore. I don't know why. step 1, eject virtual cdrom for usb mode switch. step 2, run wvdial. done!

Re: 3G Mobile Broadband Via Sakis3G Worked Once but Now Fails!

I'm pretty sure that the net connection with cooking and SliTaz 4 is broken for dialup/3G connection for some reason. You need to be root if you want to use the connection - namely you need to open a terminal, switch to root (using su) and then run the application you want, like Firefox. I have reported this issue before hmm

Alternatively, you can just install usb-modeswitch, linux-dialup, wvdial (needs wvstreams) yourself (maybe gnome-ppp for a graphical front-end for wvdial) and try connecting yourself. usb-modeswitch should switch most USB 3G modems automatically. Just remember to [c]modprobe option[/c] before trying to dial.

@Trixar_za Should we have a wdial or something user and group and them add user to the group ? And so run wdial uder this user of course. I packaged usb-modeswitch  on your recomendation but can test it :-/

@rd.nmc   ...many thanks for your directions,... broadband connection fairly important to me so will follow up on some ideas by Trixar_za.

@Trixar-za ...thank you for pointing me towards getting online as root.....works OK. I will try your modeswitch idea to see what I can put together in order to have something a little less 'flaky'.

Re: 3G Mobile Broadband Via Sakis3G Worked Once but Now Fails!

@pankso I remember creating the user group dialup and dialout without a password and adding the user to them. Both didn't work. I even tried adding the user to the root and ppp groups to try and get it to work. Also didn't take. It's weird because normal users in SliTaz 3 don't need to go through this after a connection has been made. All that's need for is for the person starting the connection to be root (which is normal).

It's clearly a permission issue somewhere. I do remember having a similar issue with a debian install because my scp client messed up the permission of / - after correcting it, normal users could access the internet again. Not sure if this is the cause of our current problem though.
