slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

I have tried almost all versions of slitaz-4.0 with no success. All attempts end at "Starting TazBox configuration ..." then the installation stops and I have a rectangular box on my monitor that says "Out Of Frequency".

Specs are:

* Processor Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 1GHz

* Flash 256MB

* RAM    256MB

* Video Chip ATI Rage XL

Any suggestions?

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

You have to take 5.0 cooking or rc3 - it is 486 - 4.0 is 686 and the transmeta is 586

And maybe lowram version, because 256 is on the limit

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

Thanks for the recommendations kultex.  Sorry it's taken a while to respond.

I upgraded to 512 RAM.  Tried slitaz-5.0-rc3 & slitaz-cooking and still reach "Out Of Frequency".

Any other ideas?

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

The problem is, that I never have seen "Out of Frequency"

Can you describe a little bit more...

when you say installation - is it Live boot or you have booted to openbox and the installation fails?

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

* created bootable flash drive using Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.6.3 selecting the slitaz iso

* set the thin client to boot from usb

* thin client recognizes thumb drive and starts installation

* screen blanks then the "Out Of Frequency" message appears

* Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets me back to the installation screen [attachment=42248,2270]  [attachment=42248,2271]

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

Thats not installation - thats booting the Live-CD. What you see is a message of your Monitor, that the resolution of SliTaz is out of the range of your Monitor.

1) tell us the resolution of your Monitor - if you dont know, you will find it in the web

2) try to install the ati driver

boot with the bootoption "screen=text"

login as tux with no password

get root with "su" and password root

then run tazx, selecet ati, get again user tux with "exit" and try startx

* Changed: autologin

* To: nomodeset screen=text

Logged in as tux; su; tazx; xorg; ati

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

so you have to get out /var/log/Xorg.0.log

afer all this thisngs you did, you plug in a usb stick and mount it by hand:

mount /dev/sdb1 /media/flash

and then copy the log

cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /media/flash

and attach it in the forum

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

sorry I forgot to say, that after installing the ati driver, you have to get user tux again, startx and then attach the log file - in this log file no ati or radeon modules are loaded......

Re: slitaz on a T5700 Thin Client

I hove no idea - normally it should run without any problems - did you try other linux - like antix or porteus

normally that helps, if I have no more ideas with SliTaz - when I see how it works, it is more easy
