How Do I Make Permanent Changes In Grub For DOS

I 'installed' the Rolling Release for 10Apr2016 to an SSD on my eeePC701sdx and during the installation I requested and got the Bootloader.

When I try to boot, Grub for Dos reports Error 15, which suggest it can't find the boot point...it is looking at HD 1,0 when it needs HD 0,0.

I am allowed to manually 'edit' this so it boots correctly but the manual edit is needed again on the next boot occasion.

Is there a permanent fix so that I can boot without a manual input?

You have to do changes in your /boot/grub/menu.lst file.

Hi Ceel, ....that was my first thought, too, but I can't get beyond 'permission denied'! It was then that I realised that Rolling is using Grub4Dos.....newish for me:(

I have used su and password, tried editing via leafpad....can you provide a more step by step process or tip me in the right direction? (I am not using nor do I have Windows)

OK and as Ceel suggested, it was essential to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst. To do this I used Sakura Terminal found in System Tools. You have to become root by entering su, then the password which is usually root. Then enter the following...... leafpad /boot/grub/menu.lst

The menu list should appear and it is fairly easy to find and change the stated boot point.....in my case I altered hd 1,0 to hd 0,0

Changes must be saved to be persistent. You can also reduce the delay to cut the boot time.
