Two different nVidia driver versions parallel

I use a small SliTaz image for our computers. Some of them are really old and using a nVdidia GeForce 5200. The SliTaz package with the GeForce driver 173 works for them.

But now we have "new" graphics cards with GeForce 210 chip. The 173er driver doesn't support them. And there seems to be no driver version that supports both chips.

So is it possible to implement both driver versions?

Re: Two different nVidia driver versions parallel

@poncho, one option is to download the driver from nVidia and compile it.

The driver for Geforce 210 is 331.65 as mentioned below.

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/68798/en-us

I downloaded and installed it and it is a pretty straight forward process.

Re: Two different nVidia driver versions parallel

Sorry that doesn't help in any way. You pointed to a Windows driver that doesn't support GeForce 5200.

I need a solution that works with GeForce 5200 AND GeForce 210. There is no nVidia driver that supports both. So I need to have two versions parallel.

I already know how to decide which driver to load in the boot process by modifing tazhw script. But actually I don't get the kernel module compiled. The driver installer says I don't have a nvidia card installed - which is correct. I only want to build the kernel module.

But what about the nouveau driver? It is available for SliTaz 5 but not for 4.0 (which I'm using). Is there a full nouveau packages available for 4.0?

Re: Two different nVidia driver versions parallel

Finally:

I updated from SliTaz 4.0 to 5.0 to have the open source nVidia nouveau driver. The nouveau driver supports all nvidia chips in history. And for me the second benefit: it works like all the other open source drivers. So I can use xrandr and don't need a special xorg.conf. I kicked the offical nvidia driver out.

Re: Two different nVidia driver versions parallel

in slitaz4 you can try xf86-video-fbdev + nouveau from an updated kernel (maybe picked from slitaz5)

or try to just copy slitaz4 user configuration files in slitaz5 to keep old configuration
