Slitaz As HOST OS To run Vbox

Hi All,

Could someone advise me as to whether it would be possible to install Slitaz 32bit to a Hard Drive & whether it would be possible/ or capable for Slitaz to run Vbox (portable preferably) so that other Guest OS's could be run within Vbox & if so, How would this be achieved & would there be any foreseeable problems/limitations etc?

For instance would it be better to load Vbox within slitaz install CD prior to installation?

Many Thanks!

Re: Slitaz As HOST OS To run Vbox

I have installed Virtualbox on a Slitaz host sometime ago and cannot recall having any issues apart from the performance issues caused due to the fact that the system itself had very small amount of memory - AFAIK it was 2GB or just under. If you are running the 32bit version then of course you are limited in the amount of memory the OS can access compared to the 64bit version even if you have heaps of RAM. But if your guest OS is not expected to do anything fancy then with 4GB RAM you should not have too many issues.

Re: Slitaz As HOST OS To run Vbox

Hi Gdesilva,

Firstly many thanks for the prompt reply and sharing your previous experience in this area, point taken with the ram & limitation of the 32 bit System.

Could you give me a clue as to how you would go about installing Virtual box onto slitaz or is there a way you can preferably pre-install Vbox into the slitaz install CD so when you install slitaz you install Vbox at the same time?

Also were you able to access USB drives with your configuration?

Cheers!

Re: Slitaz As HOST OS To run Vbox

@eyespy, As far as I can remember I just downloaded virtualbox app from the repo and installed it. Once installed you then just configure the guest as per normal. There is nothing extra to do except installing the guest additions once the guest is installed if you want cut&paste to work between the host and the guest. Although I have never created a liveCD with virtualbox, I am pretty sure Slitaz enables one to do this - I have created my own liveCD with firefox and specific firewall rules.
