I know you think it's probably insane to try and use a 266 MHz and 76MB laptop in 2017, and I think the same, but insane or not, I wanna use it, for "making" something on that laptop is a project I do with my little bro. I get to teach him linux while I learn a thing or two at the same time.
First, I tried installing Slitaz linux, but it doesn't work. This laptop's graphics card uses the neomagic chipset. I tried Slitaz with Xorg, but no matter what I did Xorg didn't start. I'm not an expert in linux, I started using linux about 5 months ago, so I seek help.
After a few more tries I managed to get Slitaz 3.0 to load the display, but I got a very weird result which I couldn't fix. Now I tried with DSL and I got the same result. A display that looks like this:

Can you help me fix this? Thank you!

Hi,
With so few RAM, I'm not sure you'll succeed. I hope you've done a swap partition.
Try the Xvesa ISO (http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/3.0/flavors/slitaz-3.0-xvesa.iso); if it doesn't work, loram ISO (http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/3.0/flavors/slitaz-3.0-loram.iso).
If your computer has a CD reader, loram-cdrom ISO (http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/3.0/flavors/slitaz-3.0-loram-cdrom.iso) should run.

I did manage to run it. I was able to sart with some graphical interface using the xvesa iso. The problem is that the display is messed up in the way that you see in the picture. I didn't proceed with the installation to HDD because I could not get it to display properly. Any help on that? Thank you.
And since you asked, it may be hard to believe, but that laptop has a CDRom as well as a USB port, and I can boot from either (Plop boot manager on CD).

Can't do that. Internet does not work by default using slitaz 3.0. But I did choose the neomagic driver in tazx using slitaz 4.0 but couldn't manage to start xorg afterwards. In fact, I wasn't able to start xorg at all using slitaz 4.0, that's why I tried slitaz 3.0.

There is an iso of old version slitaz (3 /4.. do not remember) are tested on notebook with card neomagic.
All driver are embedded, launch live same previous step, and execute tazx from prompt
