Boot errors when trying to create USB install of latest 5 rolling core

When you say "...but all I get is the errors in Post #1 over and over", which error do you exactly get?

Asking this because in Post#1, I faced two (2) different errors depending on the used method:

- a) error with tazusb.exe => system hangs after booting with this message:

SYSLINUX 3.08 2009-05-04 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2009 H. Peter Anvin et al

- b) error with universal_usb_installer.exe = slitaz boot menus are shown, but loops for ever on trying to boot with this 2 lines message:

Failed to load COM32 file c32box.c32

boot: _"

I had three different errors ... the two you mention and black screen with flashing cursor.

I tried so many different things over 8 hours I couldn't tell you now what I did to get each one ... sorry ..

But sorry, I have no answer. Maybe Pascal have something to help you... ISOlinux/Syslinux present in SliTaz IS the fork he maintain. Can't to upgrade it to the latest official version to not break something...

And latest official version may be worse than existing fork

Ok I have resolved this now by installing with "tazusb gen-iso2usb" then I fixed the above error by using 7zip to extract c32box.c32 and vesamenu.c32 as advised by others on another thread.

I have read that this error was probably happening because I have used an older distro (Slitaz 4 stable from 2012) to make the USB install as it contains and obsolete version of extlinux.bin?

Still not sure why it wouldn't work from changing the .iso to .exe and installing from that in Windows though ???

SliTaz 'fork' of syslinux supports:

1- compressed .c32 modules Tue Dec 29 08:59:31 2015 +0100

2- custom/patched iso support in c32box.c32 Sat Dec 05 18:24:53 2015 +0100

3- iso9660 rockridge name support Mon Dec 31 11:41:25 2012 +0100

4- startifnoarg keyword (for keyboard selection) Mon Dec 31 11:41:25 2012 +0100

Get the tool iso2exe.

Check your iso image

# iso2exe -l your.iso

If you don't see win32.exe the iso will not run with Windows...

...but you can upgrade it

# iso2exe your.iso

and you then you can rename it and run your.exe under Windows.

THIS IS A DRAG & DROP METHOD FOR WINDOWS!!

I once came across Xboot from pendrivelinux.com when I was trying to find something that would help me create multiboot USB or DVD easily

One can create multiboot or a single OS, bootable USB flash drive with simple drag & drop

I have tested & found it working for Slitaz 5 rolling release.

Slitaz 4 didn't work for me but you might be luckier!!
