distorted sound on ZOTAC ZBOX CI323 with Intel soundcard

Whatever program I use (for example mpg123) to listen to music, sound is output to external speakers electrically connected to a soundcard (Intel Corporation device 2284) but is rarely comprehensible and very much distorted.

The only hint I get are messages:

ALSA lib pcm.c:7843(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occured

When Linux mint is running on the same hardware, audio output (with mpg123 and other programs) works fine.

Re: distorted sound on ZOTAC ZBOX CI323 with Intel soundcard

After updating to linux64 3.16.55, linux64-sound 3.16.55 and mpg123 1.19.0, mpg123 as well as alsplayer produce excellent sound on ZOTAC ZBOX CI323.
