Package "kiwix" not available. slitaz 5.0

been trying to install the offline wiki Kiwix but its 'not available'. It appears with Tazpkg search but not found using -gi.

Changed to other mirrors as suggested in the Read First for posting in the forum but didn't have any change.

Also found 'not available' occured with serveral packages in the "Extra' category.

Slitaz targets small install and package size.

https://download.kiwix.org/bin/kiwix-linux-i686.tar.bz2 is way too big @ 70MB to package and host on our mirror.

ha - did wonder bout that, mojo. Was surprised to see it listed in Slitaz…not so much bout the 70mb program file but the massive data files.

like the idea of kiwix ie off line access to wiki for those without web access but with the data files being up to 64 GBs wondered who can download that size file.

Must say the compact size of Slitaz and its packages makes it a wonderful distro not only for low spec PCs but for those on dial-up as well.

Using slitaz on a netbook I found I could access kiwix today. Downloaded the 70 mb file..and the 2800 wikibooks on tech content...just waiting now for the indexing to take place.

If this works ok using slitaz - what a wonderful resource it will be.  A school without web access or limited board band could use slitaz to set up learning resources using old stand alone PCs.

I know a head master/principal of a local primary school - must suggest this possibility to him.

I hope Slitaz continues to provide kiwix in the future..even if it is a larger sized pkg.

I used Kiwix on slitaz 5 cooking without problem, downloading it from the kiwix website and following their installation procedure...

Yep LienRag, I got it to work too on a different PC.  I think the one I tried initially may have been too low spec.

Kiwix is a wonderful resource…to be taken to locations without internet…or to poorer schools.

Ive suggest to the local library that they could set it up on stand alone PCs for research only..as often library PCs are being used for games.
