I have a rather puzzling issue with my Slitaz 4 installation on a Pentium 3(m) laptop. Firefox will open web sites and works as it should. Midori refuses to connect to anything saying the host cannot be found. It's not a great problem but midori is useful on this rather slow laptop. Can anyone help me with this please.
Thanks

Take slitaz 5 - its better and quicker than 4

I'm using a Panasonic cf-28. It doesn't boot slitaz 5. I've no idea why. Goes through the motion then hangs on a flashing cursor on a blank screen.

here are some hints for the cf-28
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/panasonic-toughbook-cf-28-touchscreen-under-linux-solved-and-working-530918/
it should work fine with vesa - so
boot slitaz 5.0 - goto
slitaz core live
add "nomodeset" to the bootline
if this does not help - the videocard is a neomagic - so
add "screen=text" to the boorline
get root - and ran
tazx
select the neomagic driver
get user tux with exit
startx

Thanks for your response Kultex. I will persevere with 5 but the 28 does not use the neomagic. My cf-27 does have the neomagic gpu but this cf-28 has an intel graphic chip, I cant recall what exactly offhand. However i will play around and see if I can get 5 running. So far its running 4 really well considering its moest cpu and ram but I stll have the issue with menu entries for Libre office being missing (please help see my other post)

Then run tazx and select the Intel driver.....

I have just tried again to boot Slitaz 5 network boot from the boot floppy. It eventually hangs with this message
kernel panic not syncing VPS unable to mount root fs on unknown block

do you have still windows on the hd? -then try the frugal booting
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:frugal
you can also try the plop boot manager
https://www.plop.at/en/bootmanagers.html

I don't have Windows on the drive at all. I have been using plop boot floppy but it is a bit hit and miss as to what OS it will boot from a USB drive. For example it will boot Vector Linux created with unetbootin but it will not boot slitaz again created with unetbootin.

sorry, but you have to find a way to boot 5.0
didi you try this?
http://www.slitaz.org/en/get/#floppy
see notes on unetbootin - its not working with rolling
http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:liveusb

you have installed slitaz 4.0?
so you just adopt your grub to the frugal booting as descibed before

I have discovered that Midori will connect to some sites ie this forum page. Midori in Sliltaz 4 is very old and I believe that this is the problem so as far as I can tell this issue is unresolvable. The browser is just too dated.

Yelp - Thats why i told you to use 5.0 - and even midori in 5.0 is to old, so we are waiting on 6.0

Unfortunately I cannot get 5 to run on this. I'm sure there is a way but my Linux knowledge is very limited. Slitaz 4 runs well out of the box. I'll persevere with 5 when I get spare time but for now I'll keep 4. I'm even running 3 on an even older machine. I rarely go on line on either these oldies so I'm not too worried about security.
Thanks for the replies.

Isn't your midori problem caused by out of date certificates?
Offline
I'll mark this solved as I'm sure it's just this midori version is just well past its sell by date and not a fault as such.
Offline
Well, the fault is that this version of Midori is still the official one in the package lists of the official Slitaz stable...
