Hi Aleksej
Your information:
«I've drop even 5 version
I'm working for 6
And I will neither release 5 nor touch it without much need.
adapt the scope of contents to that new version
I choose BLFS to pull SliTaz in (some of the packages are even new that ones in BLFS now). I believe it's a great basis for our distro.
All that updates are slow and huge for my limited time, but I still go. I can't make any forecasts (I'm bad in it), but something tells me that we'll have Test Live CD until the summer is over.»
given in your last answer in the thread
http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/grub-pc-code-to-start-slitaz-one-time-in-the-commando-line-box
is highly important!
(Remark: I find really highly fun, that the 2 distros created initially in the French Swiss, SliTaz and NuTyx, and I will speak here about NuTyx, are both based on LFS, and if it is not completely unique in the world, is is something else! Some methods are really the same, like name giving: http://forums.nutyx.org / http://forum.slitaz.org or http://downloads.nutyx.org / http://mirror.slitaz.org, http://nutyx.org/en / http://slitaz.org, and perhaps more. Also NuTyx gives LFS sources and uses them to build binary packages from LFS, etc.)
A question Aleksej:
Did you try a time to follow and use (build the system) like this happens in NuTyx following this step by step receipt:
http://nutyx.org/en/build-pre and the 4 following linked receipt web pages?
I did do it 2 times with success. It was a fascination! Nothing to do (2 or 3 years ago! The receipt was very shorter as it did concern only LFS and not BLFS and the new NuTyx packaging system did not exist at all) else than copy with the mouse a few time line after line without to need to make somewhat else
and
after 1 or 2 days of compilation depending of the power of your PC
you can start a completely new LFS system made entirely from LFS sources on you PC without to have to use the LFS book (a very long occupation if you do that manually!)...
And you can do that in Graphic mode in a console emulator (you must use a console emulator to copy without some writing the commando lines from webpage to the console!) as your PC do, slower, of course, because the compilation job that happens at the same time, all what it does daily for you: surf, play etc. ... You can have continuously a look on the compilation job where nothing is to do for you excepted some disturb / bug happens.
The big difference between NuTyx and SliTaz:
NuTyx produces an extremely heavy system
SliTaz produces an extremely compact system
from the same stuff.
As far as know, Thierry Nuttens, the creator of Nu-Ty-x, can install NuTyx out only a script via internet starting from each system using the same bash dialect as LFS (probably the same as SliTaz or uses SliTaz perhaps a different bash because important bash scripts used in versions 1, 2 and 3 of SliTaz). I did do it a lot of times, it works perfectly passing only 3 or 4 parameters (language code, keyboard etc.). Also that can happen on a Graphical system running for other jobs (try it with Debian / Ubuntu, especially with debootstrap!). And it can happen completely from sources as explained above (actually, no other distribution recommend it really and offers at the same time conventional fully easy installation from live ISO! Gentoo not, Arch not favorable, Slackware is often named as supplier for sources but if you ask how to rebuild your distro for your own environment / processor, no enthousiasme any more. Same thing for Debian / Ubuntu: apt-build is more theory as praxis!).
And Nuttens did explain, his method of about automatic compilation can treat each scope of distribution you want: He himself try to automatize very next to the common use of LFS treatment of the building. But it was possible to compile something like SliTaz each parution of LFS as NuTyx publish in his git all versions of LFS without exception.
Second fact: Diverse packages are missing (as well in SliTaz as in NuTyx): Fonts, dictionaries, but also applications like gramps etc possibly interesting also for each one (gramps is not somewhat for specialists!!!). It is for a lot of people the cause don't to use both - if I would have to build myself my needing especialized app's I would immediately reinstall on my laptop that what initially was on it and pay by me - M$-Windows! Because I have other interests as develop. Each one have to know what he will be in the live: Developer or user or an intermediate person between both... And it conditionate what you will choice! If SliTaz and NuTyx having both the same sources base would cooperate together on the field of better handling von a/ BLFS packages not being yet compiled and b/ of foreign free packages, the heavy job would become half so difficult and the time of disposition of those packages probably shorter!
Last word: As well SliTaz as Nutyx can loose real ballast in the ISO (beavers, vi, but also simple consoles if you install Sakura). Why an too long menu where a shorter one would be enough and make the job more easy. The reason of SliTaz or Puppy Linux was to be so light, so compact, but offering a good app for each job. And, what did happen? (Especially) Puppy Linux (and in some kind also) SliTaz did become fat and fat and fat. If you look behind the door, Puppy Linux installs for ex. always 2 WM's (JWM and often Lxde like SliTaz) but also an hidden third one, Rox. Why? Rox is also an Window Manager! And PCmanFM as to become also more and more fat, to offer the same type of view as rox filer does! It is nonsens...

Important note: If you want to try to compile yourself LFS on you computer:
a/ use a really powerful PC if you want to see the end...
b/ check at the forum / IRC hotline of the distro if the depository is ok (NuTyx is an one-man distribution! Swiss people are the most powerful men in the world but they also have physical limits (::) and it can happen, that the little thing disturbing the compilation a running time is actual situation! With no luck, you discover it at the second compilation's day and it give a really poor experience...)

Oui,
your critic is stupid - boot base or justx and install whatever you want without the fat addons.
And nobody will punish you, if you offer your iso to other people as I did with my testing iso:
http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/testing-iso-with-kernel-3250
The iso is no longer available, because I deleted my dropbox account, but I will do my 6.0 iso as soon as Aleksejs iso is ready - again with SpaceFM without udisks and Midnight Commander and some other programs I think, that they are necessary.

Dear kultex,
All people have the same right and I will also say that your answer is absolutely stupid! Your example is also stupid (for iso's they are also other hostings as the silly dilly payable dropbox. Look for help at the forum of Puppy Linux having an important site for old iso's. The guys from Debian live, appearing in that forum under the name "Debian dog" or "Ubuntu-somewhat dogs" are more modest and conscious that Union fait la force! They accept the hosting by the enemy else if they have an own little site).
But your link is very interesting!
What did Aleksej immediately answer in your thread?
«LXPanel
1. I need Keyboard layout switcher. I'm Russian, and we use two layouts: US (Latin) and RU (Cyrillic) and switch keyboard between them. I live in Ukraine, sometimes we use here Ukrainian layout to write documents Official language.»
Also in clear text: they are people having a very different needs as the stupid decisions makers...
So simple is the life!
Until now was Linux synonym from freedom. SliTaz was the best example for it as Christophe did equip it initially with a detailed as well as actual Scratchbook: Each man was able to reproduce, or change, or EXTEND SliTaz without some hesitation... The matter is, that it was not possible to maintain such a Scratch book actual. Release 2 of SliTaz didn't have some one any more.
Aleksej did find the (evident) answer for it:
use a Reference work staying since years ago actual, LFS... Ok!
It is a base, a good an well defined base, only that SliTaz is (very) different from LFS and also the result... But, if that page http://www.slitaz.org/fr/doc/scratchbook/base-system.html and following pages are and stay yet fully actual, no problem!
Is that the case (I read clex, rhapsody etc... Hm!)?
What did Aleksej write more in your thread?
«SpaceFM
1. SpaceFM is still strange for me, but it matter of choise.»
The reason of that choice is not evident. Absolutely not evident! The initial scope of the base system for a
really small and perfectly working linux
was described in that page http://www.slitaz.org/fr/doc/scratchbook/base-ncurses.html (and other parts of the Scratchbook) . They were no definitive choices made for more. Christophe did respect the sensibility and needs of all users: absolutely no kind of ballast in his mixture. An absolute minimal (hm, it was all the same heavy and fat as the also graphical Basic Linux did be contained at about the same time on 2 FD floppies!) linux but perfectly working.
That is the essence of SliTaz, not to try to become an NuTyx: NuTyx exists, with the same stuff, always in the most actual release...
Dear Kultex, you need SpaceFM, add it on top on the minimal base and erase the standard clex (not working correctly any more on all system: Error message «unable to connect with the keyboard»!)
Bad is to have to desinstall app's (you forget one: the actual computer since 10 y. and more are 64 bit). SliTaz offers only ONE unique 64 bit iso, not base, justX etc. SliTaz live in the past because SliTaz prefers computers beeing about so old as ZX81 or Commodore64! That is stupid: Today also 64 bit old computers are arriving on the desk of the users! Ok, they work also in 32 bit, but nobody would prefer the wrong system to the right one, it would be stupid, as you say...

Here only alphabetical soup.
I do not see any good ideas here. Even if they were, they drowned in the soup.
Oui, please find a good use for your huge amount of free time.
Adieu.

A splited 64 bit ISO is on the List for 6.0 and it was Christoph who did the package decison for 5.0 - Nobody else......

Hi Aleksej
«Oui, please find a good use for your huge amount of free time.»
I have free time because I select my jobs according to the importance...
The too numerous Iso's, as SliTaz produces since a number of years, are killer no. 1 of time!
For developers, probably, as for users ;-) . I am sorry Aleksej, you help, I know, as you can, but it is not the right way... More than one ISO pair (ISO itself and an new ISO 15 days after the first for bug error elimination) in 1/4 year IS (it is so!) nonsens pur... You are a victim of yourself probably...
Offline
I mean, since you have a lot of free time, then you could use it to communicate your thoughts more clearly.
More than one ISO pair [skipped] in 1/4 year IS [skipped] nonsens pur...
SliTaz is not the same as it was in the beginning. I could even tell you that he is dead. But this is not so. It is gradually renewed by small forces.
In the end, I just do what I like
If I stop doing it, Pascal will stay. Alexander will remain... Hackdorte, Mojo and several other developers. SliTaz is not dead yet. He just fell asleep.
And you can not demand much from the sleeping SliTaz...
