grub2-efi SliTaz's package and UEFI

Hi,

I am working on UEFI with the goal of course to boot SliTaz in this mode.

I can see in our grub2-efi package only bootia32.efi loader; EFI 32bit computers are exceptions.

Please, is it possible to include the 64bit loader in our package?

Many thanks

Re: grub2-efi SliTaz's package and UEFI

Well, it seems nobody is interesting by installing SliTaz in dual boot with Windows 8 on a UEFI computer wink What a pity... because I did it ! :-p  I've recovered grubx64.efi and the modules I need from an ISO of welknown distro.

I did it but (there is always a but).

I first tested SliTaz Rolling Core-64 in Legacy mode to be sure I won't have any compability problems and it worked fine. Then I came back to UEFI mode and installed rEFInd and SliTaz. And now, SliTaz boots... in console mode.

Could it be possible that booting in UEFI on a 64-bit architecture computer requires 64-bit drivers? Does anyone know?

I think I can say that our actual grub2-efi package is virtually unusable since it can only be used on 32-bit EFI computers sad . We'll really need a grub2-EFI-64bit if we want SliTaz to be compatible with new PCs.

lol.. in fact you have to understand, our developpers are too busy on their work to start putting UEFI without CSM/LEGACY on the top priority lists..

means that maybe in 2019/2020, you will MAYBE have it, dont believe to see a solution before.

they will talk about it, answer questions, have discussion on it, but no pc in uefi class3 (without csm/legacy) would be able to boot on slitaz before 2019 (show me the opposite please)

2lm2

lol funny facts from future

in my variant of reality slitaz will be unmaintained in 2018. so i doubt it will have uefi support in 2019/2020. as for me (but who am i?), i don't need it while using laptop with bios.

Re: grub2-efi SliTaz's package and UEFI

yes, but some people here want to use slitaz with uefi without CSM/Legacy.

so, just make them off slitaz up to.. when?

it's not about future, it's about deadline, or schedule for an efi release, which is not supposed to come before 2018/19, as i guessed, for one thing :

it's not here today, why uefi support should be here in 2018/19?

could be done today..but not.

Re: grub2-efi SliTaz's package and UEFI

@ceel

ok, nice work, probably : for testing it, i need an uefi-compliant ISO image;

i boot directly in slitaz 5 in uefi mode without legacy/csm, i have to check if a toshiba and a dell can handle it

thank you, ceel
