PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

I feel SLITAZ must now also have a FULL ISO including most required DESKTOP Softwares like LibreOffice FirefoxBrowser etc.

Though I know Slitaz is meant to be lean and fast, I fell there is no harm in having a full ISO.

Also, can we separate SERVER, ARM and DESKTOP ISOs?

Re: PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

Hi Everyone,

And thanks for the acceptance to join your forum as a complete newbie to Slitaz and almost newbie to Linux.

I must admit that I arrived here whilst searching for an ISO of Slitaz.

I confess that I was frustrated not to find one as a starting point.

Indeed, I am trying hard to find "the way in" to Slitaz at all!

Rightly or wrongly, Dare I say that most newbies consider using any OS based on a number of things.

Size, speed, appearance and friendliness always rate highly.

The very first time that the OS is loaded onto the metal and what happens immediately following that experience in attempting to make it sit down and take notice is either the biggest buzz or grossest disappointment of all.

We all shop around and 'play' (sorry) with the chosen new toy until we get bored, run out of uses or discover that it could never have done what we expect it to do.

To be able to make that first step easily is often 'make or break' and so we move on having missed the opportunity.

An ISO or easy route to an immediately usable USB, even one with the component parts of the OS on it seems essential.

At this moment, I feel a little lost as this seems to be missing, or perhaps I missed the right door to access it?)

I really want to try Slitaz, but my immediate temptation is to move on.

Please, point me (and possibly others) in the right direction?

Re: PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

I always like to answer my own posts.

I admit that when I went to the home page,

I pressed the "Download" button

and failed to see the changes below my screens "horizon".

I will now investigate the offerings on the bottom of that page,

which were found after retracing my steps.

For sagar, who made the original post in this thread,

may I offer this link:

http://www.slitaz.org/en/get/

Maybe he made the same mistake as myself?

Perhaps a note to the sitemaster to make a small change to the home page to announce the downloads page arrival more clearly, please?

Re: PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

I already have a 5.0 rolling iso running ...

I am suggesting different flavors with preinstalled packages a la ubuntu to serve

different requirements of different users.

Re: PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

One more help ...

One can create an iso from an installed slitaz using the tool provided in slitaz itself

And also via pizza ...

Whats the difference?

Re: PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

i had a idea very long time ago which was almost the idea of a full iso.

Slitaz should comes in 2 parts embedded in a single ISO :  A will be unpacked into RAM after boot (like the live system) and the other part B would be already uncompressed onto the USB (so not loaded into RAM).

The part A will be small and contains all the vital packages, the second part B will heavy and contains all the packages of leading softs like LibreOffice, Blender, etc ...  with the purpose of offering a full desktop.

The part B will have its dependencies connected to part A

The live-user would be able to install and test additional packages like he can does now, and they will be added into the part A (so, in RAM). For stability purpose, the part B will be like a read-only system.

All the drivers and firmwares will be included in the part B in order that the system can pick up the right drivers for its own hardware.

--> The goal is to minimize to it's best the time between the download of Slitaz and a full Slitaz experience as a full fast desktop on a single usb key

Re: PROPOSAL for SLITAZ FULL ISO

Seems to be a good idea in theory ... need to do feasibility check.

And the persistance file could also be in the USB key itself.

With decently reliable 128gb USB keys available ... 2 years life of the USB key with daily usage could be a reality and possibility.
