i tryied to apply the xorg guide, nothing is working...

information:

1024x600 (as i'm trying to put)

GMA 3600

here, thexorg conf :

https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/~YxaBsMifKz05PfPLnMA9g/raw

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

when you look to xorg.0.log you see, that vesa is used not the intel driver...

whats your menu.lst entry?

normally, you dont need a xorg.conf

you can try the next iso - here the intel driver is included

http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/next/slitaz-next-170930.iso

and you will see, how Xorg.0.log should be.....

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

thank you kultex

i tried by replacing vesa by fbdev or intel... then xorg just doesnt start...

i will maybe try the next iso of slitaz... but :

i wish prefer doing it with RC5 for testing

i cannot move from RC5 to NEXT because it's needing a reinstallation, she just doesnt wants at all (data, config, softwares, etc..)

here is my menu.lst

title SliTaz GNU/Linux (Kernel 3.2.71-slitaz)

(hd0.4)

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.71-slitaz root=/dev/sda6 quiet modeset

https://linux.die.net/man/4/modesetting

try what happens, when you remove modeset

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

if i put "intel" on the driver section of the 60-device, anything i change in grub, xorg will not launch.

i tryied regarding this from wiki:

Depending on the hardware, the mode-setting feature must be turned on or off. To turn it off append one of the following to the kernel line in the GRUB boot-loader configuration:

nomodeset

i810.modeset=0

i915.modeset=0

If mode-setting is off by default and should instead be turned on, append one of the following:

modeset

i810.modeset=1

i915.modeset=1

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

to try out, start always with the iso from CD or usb

you add to the bootline:   screen=text

then you get root

run tazx and select the intel driver

after installation you should get the info, if there are errors or not

get back to tux with exit

then startx

when everything works its ok

if you end up with a blank screen you kill X with strg+alt+backspace

and post your Xorg.0.log

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

hi kultex

thank you for the reply

so i did it, and finally i understand :

in the 60-device, i havve 3 GC;

if i replace vesa or fbdev by intel, it doesnt work on liveusb.

i dont know what to do

here are the logs

https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/HHGkhadk26UJlWadMaqvwQ/raw

https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/~yZ3HNXDM6n-BsGp9uonjQ/raw

when i put intel, it says (three times):

modprobe : error : could not insert 'i915' : no such device

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

ok - you can look here

http://pkgs.slitaz.org/?file=i915

what it tells? what are the important packages?

linux-drm and mesa-dri-intel

are they installed and present?

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

can you just try next....

just boot it frugal, you dont have to change anything on the installation....

make an extra grub entry in menue.lst

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

hi kultex, ty again for the quick reply

i just tryied out of testing next... by the latest iso on the mirror.

so few things :

-the driver for the intel card is working

-because of this i can change the brightness of the screen

-there is still no brightness level bar on screen

-there is still an unconvenient notification saying updates are available (i launch my computer to work, play or learn, not to update it, IT is the way, not the purpose)

-xterm and lxterminal are gone.... i had to go to terminal

-wifi manager is not dealing with 802.11/EAP/TTLS (still only psk compliant)

-pm-suspend is not available

-wifi manager still asks for the root password (other win, mac or linux distros allow connect it just giving auth information, not root requirement)

..... will still have lot of fix information to give in the 2018Q2 End user quality report.

so my goal now is to ask you :

how could i export the intel driver from next to RC5? she doesnt want to reinstall at all, only the driver is needed.

thank you very much

regards

(btw there is the official slitaz wallpaper, instead of the Next; why do not separate next of slitaz 5, slitaz6.. )

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

you cant copy anything from next - it was just to know, that everything is ok...

you should do now the same with last rolling - boot it with screen=text and then do all the steps I described before until startx

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

ok everything works as it should...

you download:

http://mirror1.slitaz.org/iso/rolling/slitaz-rolling-core.iso

rename and copy rootfs-last.gz and vmlinuz-3.2.98-slitaz-last to /boot

and add the lines you see in the screenshot (adopt your language)

and you cannot run tazx when X is started.....

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

ty kultex

what i've done :

download the link you indicated

mount it

browse the boot dir

copy the vmlinuz to the /boot/vmlinuzlast of the computer

rebooted

edit in grub config to make booting on the vmlinuzlast

slitaz starts

moving in 60-device vesa and fbdev to intel

killed Xorg

logged as user in console

launched startx

modprobe : ERROR : could not insert 'i915' : Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

fatal server error :

no screen found

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

thats not necessary

"moving in 60-device vesa and fbdev to intel" - dont touch it

and you have to start slitaz in text mode then run tazx and this will do a new config...

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

@lm2:

Hopefully I do not write something further disturbing. But some years ago I had with the new Slitaz 4 similar problems with X. And I solved it like this:

Instead of such a kernel line

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.71-slitaz root=/dev/sda6 quiet modeset

I used this:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.71-slitaz root=/dev/sda6 quiet nomodeset

Only 2 letters changed! ;-)

At that time it worked immediately.

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

thanks kultex

the problem here is that your upload concerns a rootfs.gz

up to here i was testing with the vmlinuz, there is nothing about rootfs.gz in the grub boot..

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

vmlinuz is just the kernel - the rootfs.gz contains all the rest...

initrd=/boot/rootfs.gz

Re: slitaz, GMA, xorg, opengl..

ok, so i just did this with the only rootfs.gz you uploaded.

i'm wondering : if i have to change nothing in the xorg conf files, that means its like next, everything is done automatically?

because when i do nothing, it's still in 800x600 without opengl...
