Hi,
I booted Slitaz 5 from a LiveCD with nomodeset, no problem. Now I want to install it to the harddrive, no frugal install, but it stops with an error message:
Error - Check your settings
Nothing else.
What can I do to find the reason?

I do not know. Finalyl it worked but could not boot. Grub stage2 was corrupted. So I repaired this with an intact file stage2 from Slitaz 4 and now it is ok. Pleae delete this whole thread as there is nothing to learn left! ;-)

Hi Ceel, I have tried Slitaz 5.0 Rolling release with a USB Stick. Too much satisfied about this OS speed and performance but I am not so technical. My problem is that I have no proper knowledge about Disk Partitioning and Disk Management. And this is the main problem, that is why I am feared to install this great OS on my pc's Hard Disk for my lack of disk partition knowledge. I am just a general user of a computer and the Internet things. So my question is that, is there any way to Automatic Disk Partition Feature/Automatic Installation Procedure when I want to install Slitaz 5.0 Rolling release to my computer Hard Disk?

Hi Gopal2018,
Sorry, but the SliTaz's installer cannot partition automatically your hard disk
The first thing to do before partitioning: save all your data!.
Then defragment your hard disk; it's not essential but it's better. I suppose you have Windows already installed. You should find in Programs > Accessories (or something like that, sory I can't have Windows in english) a defragmentation tool; launch it. This operation can take a long time depending of the size and the occupied space of your disk, the speed of your processor and quantity of RAM.
It is always better to resize the disk from the installed OS; what is your Windows version?
And by the way, how many RAM has your computer?

@lm2
> we are in 2018, the year end-users doesnt even have to know what is partitioning..
Yes you are right. Over the years, users have to get stupid (frankly NOT my mention but an irony). Smart users are no longer in a trend.
Many features are removed from browsers. From the operating system interfaces many features are removed too (hello, G.N.O.M.E.!)
Making users dumb and making the operating system for dumb users. It's in the trend. Viva!
But we are going the other way.
Dumb users simply will not be able to understand SliTaz and will not use it :-D

>Dumb users simply will not be able to understand SliTaz and will not use it :-D
==> Dumb users simply will not be able to understand Linux and will not use it :-D
they're so happy under win/osx..

==> So they're know the basics incl. disk partitioning.
Or another choice to be happy using "another OS".

Hmm... its not about dumbness anymore ... using ZX Spectrum or similar as a kid was a different era;)
A 8-year old learning Python on a shiny new notebook, cannot call dumb, so I installed Ubuntu to simplify the learning... Installed an IDE called Thonny which is easy for a kid to use...
The kid downloaded and installed the same under Windows saying "come on it is so uncool, if I tell at school I use 'Yubantoo', I will loose my reputation... besides there is no Roblox, or whatever ... under 'Yubantoo' and Minecraft sucks"
Aleksej can explain the similarity of the above 'Y' spellingg to an uncool Russian word

Yes, "U" pronounced as "Yu". But I not found something "uncool" in this pronunciation. The matter of taste.
And thank you, I recall my ZX Spectrum compatible box, and Z80 Assembler. That was really cool!
Ubuntu is about something other...

@ Gopal2018,
But I cannot go through Package Manager after Autenticate.
do you use the packages manager through TazPanel or from the terminal?
With TazPanel you have to login as root, not with your user name.
From the terminal, after login as root, type [c]tazpkg recharge[/c]; same answer?
If it works then type [c]tazpkg up[/c] to update your fresh intallation and then try type [c]tazpkg -gi firefox[/c].

Aleksej, You shoold inspire users to use this OS and not to under estimate or demotivate them using it. There are billio-trillion users worlwide who are basically general users. And you should not mention a user as a drumb. Are doctors/chemical engineers/philosophers all are drumb users as you told. May be they are not expert about computer but they are specialised in their respective fields. Please open you heart and mind.

Yes Ceel, simply you are great. it's working after usung with the default user name "root" and my password. So manny thanks.

Hi Gopal2018,
Nothing personal. Sorry if I hurt you.
This user called lm2 makes me nervous. He is everywhere and everyone is his debtor.
He obviously wants me to abandon my SliTaz development, which I do in my spare time.
I'm glad when my work is appreciated by others, when it is useful.
But such characters like lm2 should not tell me how I should use my free time.
It is background.
Now, as for the message itself.
Over-simplification is everywhere.
Please recall the story with Opera web browser and why it's successor Vivaldi was founded.
Because over-simplified new incarnation of Opera.
Also over-simplification you may find in the design of new developed versions of different OS.
Users use fewer features provided by the operating system. -> The operating system is simplified. -> And all over again.
Isn't it dumbification?
> You shoold inspire users to use this OS
No. This is the work of an evangelist. I'm not him.
> not to under estimate or demotivate them using it.
I have my side project called SliTaz Next.
It is at a very early stage of development and has a bunch of shortcomings.
And I really DO NOT want users to use it. It is for testers and developers.
> There are billio-trillion users worlwide who are basically general users. And you should not mention a user as a drumb. Are doctors/chemical engineers/philosophers all are drumb users as you told. May be they are not expert about computer but they are specialised in their respective fields.
SliTaz was originally positioned as an operating system for hackers.
NOT as OS for doctors or philosophers.
I do not want to offend you, but to use SliTaz as well as to use traditional Linuxes, you need a certain amount of knowledge. SliTaz is not for beginners! It is not simple.
And I respect you as a specialist in your field.
Have a nice day!
