Power / shutdown problems...

when i am in the gui and click the spider button and shut down the system does not shutdown but seems to hang at a screen with nothing going on.  How can I determine what is hanging the system and freezing it on shutdown?  Yes, I know about poweroff, halt, shutdown, and reboot.  They seem to cycle which one of those works by which build happens to be current.  But I feel like something is not getting unloaded or some script is hanging.  I've been looking in rcS to see if i can figure it out.  I'm a programmer.

You can view the shutdown log

cat /var/log/slitaz/shutdown.log
