soundblaster live! emu10k1 makes audio hiss while playing audio files but no voice, sound output

Hello,

I am unable to resolve an audio problem running slitaz linux 4.0. I did trouble shoot from the command line the mixer and card status and tried various players with included codecs. In alsa mixer, all the sliders for master, pcm, etc. were maxed to 100% and the card and sound chip is listed. Aplay -l gives output that seems to indicate that the driver is loaded and if I play an mp3 file, I can hear the audio backround hiss increase during play and dim down again when the audio is finished. All the output jacks were tried, only one jack produces a audible hiss. Here is what I have:

In the bios, ac'97 is in auto and pnp cards use the operating system plug and play detection, not bios. I also had ac'97 denied and bios to detect pnp cards. It made no difference in output.

Thank you for your time.
