Make SliTaz Next boot.

Hello everybody,

I have downloaded the slitaz-next-180716.iso and tried to boot it, unsuccessfully.

I tried to boot the USB from the BIOS and, when that didn't work, I tried from grub menu with:

>c

>ls (to see the USB)

>set --root=(fd0)

>chainloader +1

and always get the same error: invalid signature.

Is there some other way to boot the image?

Hi sofia-m

Try to use the tip (green box) in http://doc.slitaz.org/en:guides:frugal#iso-image-install

With GRUB4DOS replace (hd1) with (hd32)

Re: Make SliTaz Next boot.

Hello Ceel,

I'tried that but didn't work.

I was able to install Next on the HD booting from SliTaz rolling live CD, copying the Next .iso to /home/tux and then making the installer use that image.

Booted fine into openbox, then pretty much froze, LOL.

Hello Kultex,

are there any indications as to when a workable beta version will be available for testing?

Re: Make SliTaz Next boot.

Hello sofia-m

Maybe I didn't understand correctly your first post. I thought you wanted to boot Next from the .iso file.

I agree with kultex. Next is not fully useable but you should be able to install it and boot it.

I didn't meet any troubles to install the 170903 ISO (it's the case with the 180716 ISO you used hmm ).

Problems will come when you'll update it. Better you block some packages (see http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/my-struggles-with-next-/page/2#post-46807 and http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/blender-on-slitaz-next/page/2#post-46973 ): simply add

[c]libfm-gtk

libfm-extra

libfm

xorg-server

pcmanfm[/c]

in /var/lib/tazpkg/blocked-packages.list before.

On my computer, I had to add [c]nomodeset[/c] in the kernel line of /boot/grub/menu.lst too.

Re: Make SliTaz Next boot.

Hi Ceel,

You understood perfectly, I wanted to boot from the .iso in the first place.

When I couldn't, since trying Next installed was my real purpose and patience is not my strong suit, I found a way LOL.

It installed just fine, and booted into openbox (I assume) fine, then frozen.

I haven't really pocked about yet.

Now I'll check your suggestions and give it a try again.
