All SliTaz servers have been more or less uninterruptedly offline since days now. As ping responses are normal and as occasionally bits of a page trickle through, it doesn't look like server maintenance but more like some sort of attack. It would be good if Pascal could post a short message on the mailing list to let the rest of us know what is going on.
One side-effect of all of this is that SliTaz 5 users can't even use the package system in this situation because no matter which other servers (tuxfamily, ibiblio etc.) they have configured, tazpkg always accesses the SliTaz server first and it fails completely if this doesn't respond. One single point of failure ... how stupid! Last night, while all SliTaz servers where dead, I ran SliTaz 3 and installed GIMP from the malibu.tuxfamily server. It was a matter of 3 or 4 seconds and everything worked perfectly. Try doing this in SliTaz 5 now ...

I had the same topic yesterday and somehow got afraid Slitaz would be on its way to be abandoned...
That's why I pulled all packages from the cooking repository of my nearest mirror (TU Darmstadt) and put it on my NAS with ftp access.
With ONLY the ftp path to my local repsository, I don't get any delays in installing packages.
So AFAIK it should only be necessary to put the single working mirror into
/var/lib/tazpkg/mirror
and all should be working, no?

... well, thankfully this hasn't happened (yet). But if it should happen one day, don't expect to hear about it in this forum, which is often a very strange place where people come to say ... rien. As far as I know, Christophe is no longer actively taking part in the day to day SliTaz business. But he made a surprise re-appearance some 2 years ago when he gave us round corners for openbox :-) Pascal, of course, takes care of the servers and he often irons out bugs that are reported here. But unfortunately, Pascal never says a peep, even when the servers go down for days, which is rather annoying, especially when one short sentence in any language on the mailing list could explain things and remove uncertainty for the users. Mojo is still around, helps and sometimes comes up with very useful ideas. He's been a constant in this forum ever since I've been using SliTaz. As to some of the other former regulars, hmm. Is Aleksej just taking a break or has he left the project? No idea. How could anyone know when nothing is ever being said?

I'm surprised. Are you sure no http connections to slitaz.org are established while the mirror on your ftp server provides the packages? I've been using a local mirror on my hdd for years and it worked reliably, even when I blanked resolv.conf or pulled the network plug. But this is no longer possible. While I can still hear the packages being accessed on my noisy old hdd, they don't get installed because some sort of ping-pong with slitaz.org fails and thus prevents the installation of the packages.

sorry for the late answer... it's been holiday time... !
What I do is, that my Synology NAS performs a daily wget update of the new packages from the ftp mirror by Uni Stuttgart (keeping the unchanged...)
The only problems I had was when my FritzBox still had an old IP of my Synology in the cache after an IP change, but that's solved, too. While the problem persisted, I had no luck installing any package till I fixed it, so it seems, that no contacts to external sites were made (as intended, since I didn't name any mirrors in the /var/lib/tazpkg/mirror file).
So that's how "sure" I am, I didn't do any network investigation or so, but I'm pretty confident, that the local (network) mirror is sufficient...
