How do I upgrade Firefox to one of the more recent versions ...

I installed Firefox browser from the TazPanel. That worked well - success!

However, it's only version 10.0 !!! How do I upgrade it to one of the more

recent versions - I think the latest is version 68 or 69 - a bit of catching up

to do ...

Thanks for any help with this.

@HGT

This is the terminal output, when I tried to get the most recent Firefox version:

'root@slitaz:/home/tux# tazpkg -gi get firefox-official

Unable to find: get in the mirrored packages list.

Unable to find: get-get in the mirrored packages list.'

PS. But will Firefox 68 run on kernel 2.6 (on Slitaz4), which is very old ?

Re: How do I upgrade Firefox to one of the more recent versions ...

The correct command is:

# tazpkg -gi firefox-official

or

# tazpkg -gi firefox-official-<lang>

for one of the available languages in the Slitaz repository

See:

$ tazpkg -s firefox-official

@HGT

Just before you posted I installed the latest Firefox version from:

firefox-69.0.1.tar.bz2

The extracted package was moved to the directory:

opt/firefox69

A symbolic link was then created:

between opt/firefox69/firefox and usr/bin/firefox

(I checked the latter and it has a symbolic link on the file icon)

Using the GUI, Firefox doesn’t appear listed under Applications/Internet.

What do I do next to link & launch Firefox from the GUI ?

Many thanks – any help is much appreciated

Re: How do I upgrade Firefox to one of the more recent versions ...

@mikey777

Firefox-official-69.0.1 won't run on slitaz-4.0

http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/firefox-official-460#post-43269

In the near future new pre-compiled versions of firefox a.k.a. "firefox-official" are not going to run on slitaz-5.0

Someone with the required skills would have to update the slitaz toolchain which is over 5 years old and rebuild the entire repo or build firefox from source code everytime it's updated.
