Internet connection icon in panel offline, even though I'm online - how to fix this.

I'm using the ethernet to connect to the internet, and am able to browse the web without any issues. However, the internet connection icon has a 'red cross' on it - this normally indicated that one's offline, but this is not the case - even when I am connected to the internet, the red cross still shows.

How do I fix this 'bug' - all help much appreciated - many thanks.

Did you check that the icon shows the state of the ethernet adapter, not a wlan adapter?

Many thanks for your reply, which pointed me in the right direction.

The icon was showing the state of the wlan adaptor, so I changed it

to 'eth0': now the icon shows no red cross :-)
