mesa-wayland and 3D acceleration

My current testing for checking whether 3D acceleration is working -either good or bad- is by running the glxgears and glxinfo commands, from the mesa-demos package (usually just first one is enough).

The thing is, the only way I found for this to work is by installing the mesa-wayland package, and restarting slim login manager by logging out and back in (if I'm *really* restarting it...)

This regardless of the gpu driver currently used (basic vesa, intel, ati, nvidia...). At least the open source xf86 drivers.

Does this mean Wayland is the only current way to enable 3D acceleration on Slitaz?

Isn't there a way to make it work with default Xorg?
