I installed 5.0 rc3 using a Live CD on an old ASUS eeepc (32-bit) with 2gb ram and 4 gb ssd. Installed on 2.1gb ext4 partition, left 1.7gb for swap. Install completed. Login as root or user hangs with the login error. I did log in to terminal as root. Looked up error and found 8 and 10 year old threads, but no help so far. I'm wondering if ext4 is the problem.
Live CD works nicely.
Thanks

If I have not installed a stable 32-bit version, and that is the reason for the login error, please someone, let me know where I can find a stable version, as I have been unable to locate one.

I reformatted sd2 to ext3 and installed 5.0. I can at least log in as root. Installed Firefox and a couple of add-ons, all working nicely. I wonder if I really need so much swap...it's not Linux Mint.

The same happened to me. I can only login as root.
