I am new on this forum, new to Slitaz and fairly noob to linux. (so you know my technical skills)
I am trying to install slitaz rolling (slitaz 5) onto an eeePC 900 series laptop thing (bought for ~5 dollars, and the usecase is to be an mp3 player at work).
I downloaded the rolling x86 (non 64 bit) iso, wrote it to a 4GB USB stick (with BalenaEtcher) and tested it in live mode. man that was fast and works very well. So I thought, I will install this.
Said and done, I did a setup of the builtin 16 GB SSD HD, used gparted and did a 512MB linux swap at the beginning of the drive then used the rest of the drive for the operating system formatted with EXT4...
Then I connected the WiFi to my Access Point, that worked fine.
I choosed the install source to be fetched from the web as it could not read the source from the live USB drive itself.
it went thru the install parts like this
1% install slitaz on: /dev/sda2
5% Checking settings
10% preparing source media
20% preparing target disk
30% cleaning the root partition if necessary
40% extracting the root system
then it started again with 1% like this
1% installing slitaz on /dev/sda2
5% checking settings
10% preparing source media
20% preparing target disk
then the message "errors encountered" came up
and I get the following error at the end error:
Error: /dev/sda2: partition already in use. Process not completeed.
I went into the install log and noticed that it says it is unmounting the partition
Partition is already mounted, unmounting
-x-x-
Eroor: /dev/sda2: partition is already in use.
process not completeed

If anyone of you have some idea on what is going on and if it is possible to install this Slitaz onto this eeePC and how to do it, I would be thankful for any help...
as a sidenote, tried to install slitaz 4 as well, but it hanged in the boot process (live USB created with UNetbootin)
ohh btw, I haved tried a week now on my own, searching and tried different approaches, but I am stuck, so - I haved tried.

Hi,
I have a Eee PC 900 and SliTaz 5 32bits is running very well.
Try:
- EXT3 not EXT4
- no swap
- / on sda1 and /home on sda2

Hi, I am grateful for your reply...
I did as you suggested, I wiped the SDA drive (tried Elive on it shortly)...
Started GParted created a 2048MB for the system (/ partition I guess) and the rest for the /home parttion (except for 1024MB that I left uninitialized to be used as an swapdrive - if possible, later)
I did get exactly the same error as before except the partition identifier had been changed to /dev/sda1 instead of /dev/sda2.
Do you or anyone else know if there is a step by step guide to install everything manually by hand (just like the installer does but by hand?).
I know it might be complicated and take a long time, but I really like this distro and would love to figure out on how to make it permanent on the drive...
To me it seems that the unmounting the installer tries to do, do not work... or maybe the drive (a Phison SSD drive with 16GB) is awkward and does not do what it is supposed to do somehow or perhaps albeit unknown to me right now, some bios setting.
anyway, even if you cant give more help... I appreciated the effort given to help me...

How many SSD drives do you have on your EeePC900 ?
You should have 2 :
- The 1st = 4GB = for the system (/) = sda
- The 2nd = 8 or 16 GB = for /home = sdb

As far as I can see (in bios) I only have the 16GB phison drive... (built in)
Neither does GParted detect anything else...
I could try, if the installer accept it, try to install the system onto a 4GB SD card and use that for /.
However as a test, I faked as much as possible to recreate the system specs in VBox, 16GB drive, 1GB mem and so forth and even slowed down the virtual CPU. There it worked as it should, even with one drive...
So it must be something with the computer I think or that the installer tries to mount a drive two times on the real hardware as seen in my initial post and it is failing because it is already mounted... But then again, why did it work in VBox?
Is it possible (more thinking loud than asking, I have never tried it) to install it in virtualbox... clone the drive and put it on the real hardware and then install the grub bootloader to it, could that work?
I think I will try.

it is very strange, now I get the exact same error in virtualbox...
using 1GB mem, 4GB HD, fetching rolling from web, Error partition already in use thing in the second install fase
However, when trying slitaz 4. That version worked to install with fetching 4.0 Stable from web
So...
It seems to be something with the installer trying to mount something twice, at least to me it seems like that, perhaps it changed somewhere along the line...
I can't make it work anymore, not in a virtual machine or on real hardware.

I just wanted to confirm that this is an issue, I opened a similar thread before realising somebody else had the EXACT same error. I tried as well all the suggestions from R8.
I came to the same conclusion as azvareth: the installer loops through the process twice, finally finding the partition already mounted and in use.
FYI, I looked up a number of installation guides from users on the web, and some screenshots show that the process shouldn't look like it's repeating itself. My guess is that at some point in time the rolling release got something changed that messed up with the installer.
I'm really hoping somebody replies to this or my thread, as Slitaz seems to be the only distro that works well on the hardware I currently have at hand.
