Slitaz 4.0-After hdd install root password not working

I am completely new to Slitaz but not to linux. Here is my issue: after install Slitaz 4.0 to hdd and changing the root and user passwords the root password does not work but the user password does. At the end of the install there were no errors indicated.  I have re-installed thinking I may have made an error but the same issue exits after the second install.

I searched the forum and did not find this issue. I googled and found only one reference to this and in it I was directed to a config file that does not exist on my install.

Suggestions?
