LiveCD Boots to Lined Screen

I'm interested in installing Slitaz on an old PIII. The LiveCD works fine on my other computers and boots into the live session without flaw.

However, on the P3, after selecting my language and keyboard map the CD boots into a lined purple/black/cyan screen. I've tried it on another monitor with the same result or simply a black screen. This occurs after HAL is displayed on the command line.

I'm a linux noob so please be patient. Thanks.

Note: I tried an old Xubuntu liveCD and that booted into the desktop fine.

I've since opted for XP anyways since the user will probably be uncomfortable with linux and document compatibility. Maybe someone else would appreciate an answer for the future anyway though!

Maybe give the xvesa flavour of SliTaz a spin. Alternatively, if you're seeking a lighter distro than Xubuntu, I hear Lubuntu is pretty good. It uses the LXDE interface fully where SliTaz only uses parts like the panel.

Re: LiveCD Boots to Lined Screen

I recently tried lubuntu 11.04, I think, and it works fine on my old piii machine, though it is much larger and significantly slower than slitaz.  I would be interested in learning which parts of the lxde desktop environment are used in slitaz.
