I cannot run as liveUSB or via an installed version of Slitaz 4.
Live USB fails from "Kernel Panic No Init Found" if made with Gparted (ext3 Partition) & Make Liveusb option from desktop or via universal USB maker or Unetbootin.
I get the coloured grub screen which then brings up the choose location and keyboard (both with black background) then fails.
Installed version - Installed to a USB stick via installer fails with Error setting MTRR invalid argument (22) - then drops to the CLI login - will not sart with startx.
The ISO works perfectly in Virtual box on windows.
Siltaz 3 boots ok via liveusb on this machine.
wait a second..how did you create the LiveUSB?
you should get an extlinux bootloader menu at startup with an orange colored picture as the background. When formatting the USB drive with gparted, did you checkmark the boot flag?

I also get an error when run the live-usb slitaz-4
(created using unetbootin-windows-568)
When I start slitaz-3, all works well

forsik,
This is not for sure, but I'm betting that the reason is because there is no rootfs.gz in the Slitaz4.0-stable release.
It contains rootfs1.gz, rootfs2.gz, rootfs3.gz and rootfs4.gz, which get combined by the extlinux bootloader.
I got mine to install properly to USB using the "create LiveUSB" option while I was using a (rewritable) LiveCD. You can create a liveUSB while running Slitaz in Virtualbox as well.
Or if prefer Unetbootin, the current Slitaz-cooking release does have a rootfs.gz file, so I feel it will have a good chance of working for you.

namT: see above for how I made the Live USB = Unetbootin OR universal USB maker OR gparted.
However remade via gparted and made sure it had the boot flag.
This time its the same as a install fail:
I get the orange splash.jpg "grub" menu screen, which then brings up the choose location and keyboard (both with black background) then fails with :
"error setting MTRR (base = 0xd000000, size = 0x10000000, type = 1) Invalid argument (22)"
then drops to the CLI login
This is the hardware
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+
Mobo AsusTek M2VTVM-VM890
Chipset
Northbridge VIA K8M890CE rev. 00
Southbridge VIA VT8237A rev. 00
Graphic Interface PCI-Express
Nvida GeForce 8400GS
Got my hands on another PC and it apears that the LiveUSB does work ok, Just not on my PC 8(
Most of my computers hang after setting the language and keyboard with the blackscreen.
The computers that will boot to desktop after configuring with xorg language/keyboard setting windows with mouse always have "error setting MTRR (base = 0xd000000, size = 0x10000000, type = 1) Invalid argument (22)" in the boot.log
You can skip the lockup by tweaking at the orange boot menu that is titled "Slitaz GNU/Linux 4.0 20120410 by either highlight Languages/English US tap Enter key, be patient, it goes to boot: then continues to desktop or highlight SliTaz core/gtkonly/justx Live , hit the tab key,add after autologin lang=en_US kmap=us

>highlight Languages/English US tap Enter key, be patient, it goes to boot: then continues to desktop
This goes to "Could not find kernel image /boot/isolinux/ifmem.c32 Printing/displaying in a loop
>SliTaz core/gtkonly/justx Live , hit the tab key,add after autologin lang=en_US kmap=us
This gets to a black desktop. No icons. Right click on desktop brings up (openbox ?) menu with a sub menu left or right click on menu item does nothing. - hard reboot/or powerdown only.
same problems here. no orange screen, hangs at "kernel thread helper" like in post #3.
tried on asus eee701 and compaq presario cq56. used unetbootin for creating the key.
had the same issue with all rc releases
i think it is a waste of cds to create a cd just to create a usb key. also, lots of netbooks dont have cd drives today. will try burning one anyway, cause I love to see slitaz 4.0 at work. thanks for creating this distro!

@saneks
You can also create a usb key from Windows. I stated like that with SliTaz 3 years ago.
Look at http://doc.slitaz.org/fr:handbook:liveusb

Unetbootin + slitaz-4.0-core.iso = heaven
