youtube-dl error on SMPlayer (failed to find video/failed SSL handshake)

Hello there, hopefully someone might be able to help me with this little issue?

So I updated SMPlayer and wanted to test how it plays from SMTube now, however it now fails to find videos on Youtube (As per error message on screen).

The usual popup from SMPlayer offering to download youtube-dl appears...but fails to download it due to "Failed SSL Handshake"

I have tried also youtube-dl from the slitaz package manager, and trying to make it work from the youtube-dl github... but it fails just the same.

While logged in as root on this, I noticed that SMplayer downloads the file to "usr/bin" while the slitaz version goes to "root/bin", and so I've tried each version of youtube-dl in both locations, but with no success.

I wonder if anyone else is having this issue, and if so, is there a possible solution to it? (I am sure there is something simple I am overlooking, but I can't think what?

Any help with this is really appriciated

Hi actua11,

though I didn't replay your settings, did you install the cacerts package?

This should provide a recent list of interet certificates that wget, curl and others check against...

Maybe this already solves your problem??!?

Hi thanks for your suggestion, though I did have cacerts package installed.

Actually I noticed I had been logging in as root, and the ssl fails 100% of the time with that, ... logging in as normal user, and uninstall/re-install the packacages including cacerts seems to have made it much better, thanks!
