keyboard doesn't work at all and cursor gets in center at every moving

Hi There

There's a vintage laptop ( LG LS50 ) that doesn't have USB boot option ( I tried plpbt but still doesn't boot with USB memory ) and I use CD for writing disc image of SliTaz OS . The problem is when I boot to SliTaz Live it doesn't show any thing but a huge Terminal and it gets ok with GTKOnly Live Boot , but keyboard still doesn't work at all and when using touch pad , the cursor jiggles on moving and gets to center of desktop , every time I use and move it to another place

I will be grateful if someone helps me

Thanks A Lot

Re: keyboard doesn't work at all and cursor gets in center at every moving

Hi, at boot with cd press tab and enter "screen=text". Boot, and login as root in text mode. With internet connected to ethernet socket give "tazx" then try to reconfigure xorg (I assume ATI or RADEON". Eventually if all goes well startx (or slim) to enter graphics mode.

Good luck!

Hello Sir , Thanks for Your attention and advice ... But main problem is keyboard doesn't work and cursor jiggles and places at center every time I move it ... Here's a trick for Ubuntu , But SliTaz boot options differ from Ubuntu's , Can You help to edit SliTaz boot options ( it's not similar with Ubuntu at all )

Re: keyboard doesn't work at all and cursor gets in center at every moving

The cursor and keyboard problem relate solely to Xorg and its configuration. If you boot in text mode as I told you, you won't have the cursor and the keyboard will still work.

Only after launching startx will you be able to test the outcome of "tazx."

According to the information you should have graphics card: Intel Corp. 855GM

If xorg supports it choose the appropriate driver...

You are right Sir , But new Linux kernel versions have problem with Old keyboards . When I edit boot options to screen=text and boot the kernel , Keyboard stops working ...... Is there any way to pass the problem ? I guess if I use old SliTaz it will work but as soon as I update SliTaz , The bug will come over again ......

Re: keyboard doesn't work at all and cursor gets in center at every moving

I don't know your problem. However if you know a particular kernel that works, just put it in your installation and modify the grub for it to load.

The kernel files are basically two: vmlinuz-XXX-slitaz in the /boot folder and the /lib/modules/XXX-slitaz folder which are the related modules.

Copy those from another version of slitaz running on yours, then you can block automatic updates to the kernel only

tazpkg block linux

is an unusual solution, but it may work if that really is the problem....

Re: keyboard doesn't work at all and cursor gets in center at every moving

@ HadiLovelorn,

new Linux kernel versions have problem with Old keyboards

SliTaz doesn't have a new Linux kernel version...

I tried plpbt but still doesn't boot with USB memory

Strange. I can boot all of my 3 old computers (more than 20 years old, no USB Boot option) using PlopBoot Manager (v.5.0.15) with this entry:

[c]kernel (hd0,0)/boot/plpbt.bin hiddenusb[/c]

The USB stick must be connected before the entry is selected.

Concerning the keyboard, can you do a test with an external keyboard?

(If you use a USB keyboard, it's possible that Plop doesn't see it so you'll have to wait the [c]TIMEOUT[/c] before the [c]DEFAULT[/c] entry starts).

when I boot to SliTaz Live it doesn't show any thing but a huge Terminal and it gets ok with GTKOnly Live Boot

When booting [c]SliTaz Live[/c] entry, according to the quantity of memory of the system the most appropriate flavor (base or JustX or GTK Only or Core) is launched. It seems you boot JustX (Xorg with the terminal Xterm). How many MB RAM has the computer?

I guess if I use old SliTaz it will work but as soon as I update SliTaz , The bug will come over again ......

No, update is not upgrade. After an update SliTaz 4.0 will always be SliTaz 4.0, not Rolling. But SliTaz 4.0 is already 10 years old and some programs, like Midori, won't work...
