tmux terminal error with mc and w3m

Hello,

I'm not 100% positive this is a slitaz issue since it seems to surface on several google searches. However, I'm experiencing it on a slitaz install and not on similarly set up devuan and alpine linux installs, so here it goes.

When I use tmux on tty (no terminal) and launch midnigh commander, I get the error "Error opening terminal: tmux-256color".

When I launch w3m, I get the error "can't find termcap entry tmux-256color".

The info I found to configure tmux to use 256 color is about using it in a terminal, which I am not.

Did anyone experienced similar issues and found some workaround?

Update.

I get the same error on slitaz rolling running live and also on next64 also running live.

Okay, I solved it by setting screen-256color instead of tmux-256color in .tmux.conf.
