Hello,
I've been considering building a package to allow w3m to display images.
On other distributions (Alpine Linux and Devuan) this functionality is provided by the package w3m-image (or w3m.img).
However, looking at w3m source files at sourceforge, I couldn't find such thing as w3m-image or anything similar.
Can anyone give me some pointer as to where or how find the proper sources?
Thanks.

How about ths one [w3m_0.5.3.orig.tar.gz] from:
https://packages.debian.org/buster/w3m-img
could be the files you are looking for are in there.

Hello @sixofeight.
I tried that already. If you check
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/w/w3m/
you'll see that, while there are w3m-img .deb packages, the tar.xz source file only refers to w3m.

Hi sofia-m
Q: Do you run w3m in X or in a tty?
I'm asking because I compiled w3m from the *.orig code
(needs also libgc.so.1 on my system, ymmv)
and images are displayed out of the box -- in X.
It does not work in (eg) the xfce4-terminal; it does work in xterm, so it depends on which terminal is used.
Maybe, if not done already, compile w3m *.orig code to check if you need w3m-image at all.

Did you compile it on slitaz?
I run w3m on tty. It's my fav browser on systems without x.
Did you change any parameters when you compiled it?

Ah,OK...I don't see images when w3m is running in a TTY - only in X and xterm.

Well, I once was a happy slitaz-4 user.then my hardware changed > sz-4 did not work anymore
and sz-5 was not useable at that time.[and still is not major enough today - IMO]
so no, I'm on slackware.
I must confess that I don't have much time to understand and fix something like this. Sorry.

Bonjour sofia-m,
l'anglais n'est pas ma langue.
Peut-être ai-je mal compris le fil des messages.
il me semble que w3m-img est bien dans le paquet w3m (voir l'image jointe)

Hello sofia-m,
English is not my language.
Perhaps I misunderstood the thread of the messages.
It seems to me that w3m-img is in the w3m package (see attached image)

@sixofeight
--> so no, I'm on slackware
I understand. I'm referring specifically to w3m slitaz 5.0 package. I have no problems with w3m-image on my other distros.
Capisco. Io mi riferisco specificamente al pacchetto w3m slitaz 5.0. Non ho problemi con w3m-img nelle mie altre distribuzioni.
Hello @Rantanplan
You are correct, I haven't opened the source tar.gz. I will try to make a slitaz w3m-img package out of it.
Tu as raison, je n'ai pas ouvert la source tar.gz. J'essaierai de faire un paquet Slitaz W3M-IMG.

Built http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/w/w3m/w3m_0.5.3+git20220429.orig.tar.xz on slitaz-5.0 using gcc83-8.3.0
Images display on ttys and xterm, no display on sakura or lxterminal.
