Hey all, I think I left you all waiting long enough. Two days ago I created a new sakis3g build using the method described on it's wiki. I compiled in usb_modeswitch and the latest db into it and I even added a few South African providers. I also fixed the bug with ppp and made bash only a dependency and not an enforced requirement meaning you can still use ash as your /bin/sh and only need bash installed for sakis3g to work.
You may need (but is probably not required):

Finally download:

Now:
1. Install the sakis3g package by double clicking it. Leave out tar, bzlib and bzip2 for now.
2. Try running [c]sakis3g[/c] from sakura and if it gives you an error install tar, bzlib and bzip2 then.
3. Try running Applications---> Internet----> Sakis3g and see if it works.
Yes, left it mostly untested and my attempts on the usb_modeswitch forums has failed, so we're going to test it here on SliTaz. It works well enough that I'm currently connected with it, but I still need to test if bzip2 and tar is required or not.

Sorry, I couldn't try this earlier,........Sakis3g, works perfectly on my eeePC701SDX running a Telstra (Aus)ZTE626.

Thanks - It's network operators.db is 2 years out of date for most networks though, so I'll update it as needed. This Sakis3G also should support over 100 more devices, which is pretty awesome in my opinion. Now only to get the YAD interface to work... then it would be perfect 
This version also shouldn't break connections anymore - it was actually a bug in ppp if you could believe that...

My modem is a bit old and perhaps out of date but it is still effective when on the move. An eeePC needs both wireless and USBroadband to be useful....I apprecite the work you must have applied to get it to work.

I'm new in Linux. I'm trying to "resuscitate" a very old PC (celeron 500MHz, 192MB RAM, nVidia 64MB RAM, HD 10GB, 2 USB ports) and, after a long research, I found that Slitaz is the smallest OS and the most user friendly too... maybe in the World... 
Well, I followed your instructions but sakis3g doesn't work! It can't find drivers for my Internet Key. That's a Huawei E173s.
I only want to use that PC to surf the Internet... facebook, youtube, listening to music...
Can you help me? THANKS!

Here I am again! Well I installed:
1) bash-4.2.tazpkg
2) linux-dialup-2.6.37.tazpkg
3) sakis3g-s4.tazpkg;
and, in a second prove, a tryed to install:
4) tar-1.26.tazpkg
5) bzlib-1.0.6.tazpkg
6) bzip2-1.0.6.tazpkg.
The first error is:
/bin/bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (it_IT)

/bin/bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (it_IT)
but this problem is solved if I change my language in English, for example.
When the program shows its options, whatever I choose, it finishes giving always the same message: "Cleaning". And anything appens.
The I tryed to use: sakis3g MENU="CONNECT"; it locate the modem, makes te switch and shows me a menù:
1) Option kernel module
2) Other Driver...
etc.
and both I choose option 1 and option 2 the message is:
UNABLE TO LOCATE DRIVER TO USE FOR DEVICE "12d1:1c05"
FAILED TO CONNECT.
And the program ends.
Obviously, 12d1:1c05 stands for my Huawei E173s Internet Key.
What's wrong???

Fixed a bug in sakis3g that made it quit when user made a selection on the menu... so didn't notice it until a few days ago.

Still..may I ask how could I have installed the Drivers Given along with my Huawei Device..
That are on the device itself....I could unpack the .tar.gz package...but was having trouble with "./configure" command on SliTaz...

The only way would be to compile the driver into or against the Linux Kernel. This is where tools like usb_modeswitch, connman's 3g module and sakis3g makes it easier - it avoids the whole recompile stage.

I use sakis3g on slitaz 4 , runs great with all my huawei usb modems , i lately installed slitaz 2 on a lap top but i cant make sakis to run , maybe i should use an older sakis ?

No, there is just a different set of requirements with each version of SliTaz. This Sakis3g won't run on SliTaz 3 and the latest cooking version either. I have to custom build a sakis3g version for each SliTaz version.

Maybe try installing those packages in SliTaz 2 and see if helps, but note that the sakis3g-s4 package comes with ps, grep and several of the other tools installed, but some might not work with the older versions of stuff found on SliTaz 2, which means you need to install the package to replace it. But the minimum should be: linux-dialup, bash, usbutils, tar and bzip2

Right, I did another update to the package. This time I changed by hand the 67 new files between the last working copy of the database and the latest one. What does this mean? It means that newer devices should work properly now. So grab the latest copy of the package @ http://www.trixarian.net/downloads/sakis3g-s4.tazpkg and enjoy!
MAJOR CHANGE: The Sakis3g package now includes ALL the files needed to make it work. That's right, it has the linux-dialup and bash packages INCLUDED with it now. You ONLY have to download the sakis3g package to get online with your 3G Modem on SliTaz 4. Update NOW

Remember: You only need this package to get online with 3G/HSDPA/GPRS/EDGE/LTE using SliTaz 4!

Hi I'm having problems with this not working, I'm on slitaz 4.0 and I've got a huawei hilink stick
I've been tinkering with lsmod/rmmod and ?resetting? the stick and sakis3g options with no luck, it's nothing like this guys post:

sakis3g gets as far as 'finding tty' and fails :: I've looked and there's 2 /dev/ttyUSB0 and USB1
I'm not sure what to do at this point? Please help..

Depends on the USB modem and if usb_modeswitch supports it. The one that comes with my sakis3g is the lastest copy of the usb_modeswitch binary and database, with the latter modified to be backward compatible with sakis3g. The other thing is that this version is made for SliTaz 4 and won't work with cooking.
