JustX and application

Hello All,

I am exploring Slitaz for a minimal installation along with a remote app.

The idea is to have 2 images. One image would be the JustX version that would have the Xorg and the second image would be to have an application (i.e. Firefox, or some other single application) that would call the xserver for the rendering.

https://www.slitaz.org/en/get/flavors.php

Mostly this is to explore using ultra-lightweight images for remote xserver usage from x-applications.

Any thoughts on how this could be accomplished with 2 versions of Slitaz?

Thanks

Re: JustX and application

Hi LonnieTC,

Not sure understand that would you do, seem similar to LTSP.

have "a fat server" that running apps and display delegate to client.

Maybe we have stuff to do it, i don't know, but like idea smile.

When i'm on high school (~2011), participate to project and discuss how to reuse computer donation for Benin school (Ubuntu LTSP, light client ...), with this action i search light distribution and discover SliTaz.

Re: JustX and application

What could be done with the 2 ISO images as a PoC is perhaps something like this.

1. App image:  JustX with Firefox and xrdp (or maybe an xFreeRDP server)

2. Client Image: JustX with FreeRDP

This would be an ultra-thin Client (2) that could connect to Apps (1) that might be running in a hypervisor or remotely.

The main idea is to see how small we can keep the images and still have good quality.

Further, the Client (2) could connect to a remote system that has just about any type of desktop as well and that desktop would start seamless RDP applications which would show up in the desktop as homogenous applications but in reality they could be located remotely anywhere in the world.  Of course, a lot of this would depend upon good network connections with low latency.

An objective, further down the road is to move towards using Unikernels + Application instead of full App images.

Still playing with ideas, but this is where the PoC is going.

Thanks again
