Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

Hello

Is there any chance to make bootalble USB from iso without burning the CD?

When I use windows software to do it I've got few problems:

Kernel panic

boot hangs

no boot at all

(I use software like USB installer, tazusb, UNetbootin and some Tiny Core installer - I don't remember the name)

When I try to generate usb from iso (I've got bootable USB with slitaz 3) I usually get error that could not mount the image.

any chances??

additional stuff don't have to read it..................................................

........................................................................................

I wont to try the Slitaz 4.0 because I've got enormous problems with flash player.

There is no way to get flash in Slitaz 3!

On Slitaz 3 the get flash hangs when i change mirror it get flash install it and whole Slitaz crush, in Slitaz 2 I've got some problems to connect with mirror.

for a month or even more I tried a lot of small live distros and I have to say that Slitaz is probably the beast! So many stuff on 30 Mb!

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

Adobe dropped support for ALL browsers except Google Chrome and released one final version that should work with all other browsers. Except the trouble is that the last version of is that flash is broken. It is possible to get flash to work using the Chrome plugin with other browsers with a simple file rename and moving it to the right place however and I've done this and Flash works fine for me now.

I packaged it and currently uploading it, but over ftp, so it probably will only be up in an hour (2kb/s upload - I hate ftp). Anyway, you should be able to find it @ http://www.trixarian.net/downloads/flash-plugin.tazpkg when it's done.

As for SliTaz - Try formatting the USB drive as ext3. The error you're getting with kernel panic is because your trying to install it to an USB drive that's formatted as NTFS or FAT32. Also for SliTaz 4, rather use http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/stable/flavors/slitaz-4.0-core.iso with Unetbooten on an ext3 formatted drive - it should work way better

Trixar_za thx for support.

I'll try the package when it be uploaded.

Unetbootin will works with ext3 file system under windows?

I'll try - yesterday I made ext3 CF card because I also thought that the file system could be a big problem. First I'll try the tazusb under windows...

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

With a frugal install it shouldn't matter if it's ext3 or not, but this isn't always the case. Also software like Unetbootin doesn't like the default Russian Doll setup of the 4-in-1 iso that SliTaz 4 comes as. This is why I suggested the core iso instead.

Btw, the flash plugin should be up. All 4,7MB of it. It should work with Firefox, Seamonkey, Chrome, Midori and most webkit browsers. Not so sure about Opera though.

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

You must run 'isotohybrid /path/to/your/image.iso" before run dd if=/path/to/your/image.iso of=/dev/sdx, to make ALL device /dev/sdx bootable. 'dd' command (this way, will erase ALL your selected disk). Run 'fdisk -l' to find the disk you want to burn (hdx?sdx? - where x is the number of properly device).

You should have a live flash SliTaz disk after this.

It WORKS WITH OPERA wink

boot on ext3 with Unetbootin also works but the X server start with black screen.

What are the graphics differences between 3.0 and 4.0 version?

Once again thank you guys for support

------ additional  question-------------------------------------------------------------

does anyone use Gnash with Slitaz?

Is it faster than Adobe Flash Player?

Gnash should be faster, but it only supports less (and older) flash features. For the newer ones you need atleast flash 9 to 11 depending on when the flash application was made.

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

OK, been digging around - gnash is a dependency whore and can't even compile on SliTaz without xulrunner (which we don't have). Conversion of it also didn't work. It doesn't support everything flash player does, yet you need a crap load of stuff to use it? Pass.

I had a old copy of flash player 9 lying around, so I tried it. Not really something you'd want. You see transparency seems to have only been added in with flash player 10.1 , including the High Def codec support and ActionScript 3 - This is what you need to watch HD movies on Youtube or play the newer flash games. So I tracked down a copy of it here: ftp://ftp.uhulinux.hu/sources/flashplayer/install_flash_player_10.1.82_linux.tar.gz - That's right, it's from August 2010 and it can run everything the latest Flash player can - only it's faster! I hope to package it soon big_smile

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

Trixar_za once again thanks smile

I definitely owe You a beer smile

Flash player works but use 89% of CPU.

If I be able to install the gnash I'll test it.

THX

--------------------------------------------------------

I just open the archive - there is only the library in it - so to test I just have to put in in the plug-ins dir?

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

Yeah, you pretty much have to copy it as root user to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /usr/share/flash to make it work. You also have to go to about:plugins in firefox to see if it took. It tends to misreport the the version number in the addons dialog's plugins section, but it gets the date right. Probably some screwy coding. This version is actually 5MB smaller than the newest version and from what I test, games and some youtube vids run faster and uses less resources. Haven't found something that refuses to work either.

Re: Slitaz 4.0 Live USB without the CD

I've tried the flash player 10 I don't see a big difference sad

I don't have to play games and use the transparency but I just want to watch youtube faster.

Is there any solution? Older flash? I try to compile the gnash but I got the gcc problems.

Trixar sorry for being such a pain in the ass wink
