Screen Flickering with lower resolutions?

Hi.

Finally I could config slitaz 4 with my Radeon 5450 PCI card thanks to this forum.

Now my TV is a Hitachi 42HDS69.

This equipment support:

480p

720p

480i

1080i

Slitaz ati driver detect all the resolutions, but with resolutions lower than 1080p(1920x1080) start flickering.

With 1080i no issue, just the other settings.

I was thinking that maybe a screensaver or stand by thing but I check my system and doesn't have any screensaver or standby mode that I could disable, this happen after +/- 10 minutes of inactivity, if I work on the machine this issue disappear.

Exist some effects, I stop effects, but the same behavior, this issue is a Xorg thing or is other thing?

I'm checking xorg settings to see if exist something that could help, google have give me to me some results juts need to see if they help me, I will let u know my friends, thanks!!!

I'm having a similar issue, I decided to install Slitaz on a older Laptop bought in 2009.

It also too has a Radeon Graphics card, when booting Slitaz from a CD, the screen flickers like a nigh club, I can kinda see what I'm doing, but it hurts my eyes, so when I press CTRL+ALT+Backspace, it goes to the terminal window, but it also flickers there.

When trying to install the radeon driver, with 'tazx' the only option I get is quiter.

It's an ATI Radeon X1200

Any advice?

@christopherb, I have a PC with an old Radeon card and have experienced flickering problem you have described above. This is what I had to do to install Slitaz on HDD.

1. Boot with LiveCD

2. Specify 'lang=en_US kmap=us' (or whatever language option and keyboard options you want) to boot. This will overcome the problem of having to select language and keyboard option from a flickering screen!.

3. Once booted as root run tazx. The reason you are getting only the 'quit' option is because tazx cannot find an active network connection. From memory, I think the default is set to wlan0 and if you are using eth0, you would need to edit /etc/network.conf and restart the network by running '/etc/init.d/networking.sh start'

4. Once the network is up and tazx will do a recharge of package list and provide you with the menu to install the radeon driver.

It still doesn't work properly, but the funny thing is, I dowloaded Slitaz-xVesa, and that workds perfectly. Good screen resolution.....what's the difference between the two?

However, the Slitaz-xVesa cant install tazpkg files like the normal slitaz....how do I fix that?

Unfortunately cannot comment on Slitaz-xVesa - I have never tried it out myself but cannot see any reason why you cannot install packages irrespective of the X display. Did you try running 'tazpkg get-install <pkgname>' as root from a terminal? What is the output from tazpkg command? Also, make sure your network connection is up.

ah I have it working now.... I just got a bit confused between the installation processes....Slitaz 4 has an app that install the tazpkg file for you, but Xvesa doesn't. you gotta do it in the terminal...

And also, terms of video, what are the differences? Because the new Slitaz 4 doesn't work on my pc, but Xvesa does...

One things I noticed going through the packages installed on slitaz4, is that it uses mesa drivers, where as the slitaz-xvesa doesn't.....can that be the reason why slitaz-xvesa works on my laptop and slitaz4 doesn't?

@christopherb, the package manager app is Tazpanel which you should be able install from command line if the Xvesa flavor does not come with it. As far as I can tell the issue you have is do to with not using the correct video driver - I may be wrong here, but my understanding is that xvesa is a generic driver which will work in most cases.
