top panel missing!

Hi smile

My top panel went missing in SliTaz 4.0.  How do i get it back?  This has happened ebfore but then it was a fairly ancient machine so i was expecting problems.  This machine is only old not quite ancient yet.

I found how to get the bottom one back if that went missing but the top one doesn't seem to work the same way.

Thanks and regards from

Re: top panel missing!

You have to modify Panel Preferences for both the top and bottom panel or the unchanged panel won't reappear.

To bring back both panels:

rm ~/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels/*

For user tux:

rm /home/tux/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels/*

Logout/in X session

Make configuration change to both top and bottom panels.

For the panel I normally wouldn't modify I  increase or decrease Height or Icon one pixel

This sets a config files panel and bottom in panels folder.

Both modified panels will now load.

Re: top panel missing!

Hi smile

rm = remove?

When i tried it on a LiveCd of SliTaz i got the error messages

"

tux@slitaz:~$ rm ~/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels

rm: /home/tux/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels: is a directory

tux@slitaz:~$ rm /home/tux/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels

rm: /home/tux/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels: is a directory

"

Sorry it has taken me sooo long to reply!

Re: top panel missing!

Typo, forgot this *

The rm command removes the user configuration file.

To bring back both panels:

rm ~/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels/*

For user tux:

rm /home/tux/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels/*

Logout/in X session

Re: top panel missing!

I actually have the opposite question (though I had the same problem-thanks!):

I would like to to remove lxpanel from a user account and restrict access so that users can only run firefox (in kiosk mode using rKiosk(?)) from an icon on the desktop or logout.

I would also like to run it using PXE in order to centralize my configuration.  (unless there is a better option of course.)

I also need the ability to restrict access to a single site.

In short I'm making a set of Linux (Slitaz) based kiosks and need to lock almost everything out.

General Specs (just FYI as I haven't had any problems running it thus far):

These are old Dell Optiplex 540s/745s most with just 1 Gig of RAM or 512MB.

Pentium 4 or Core Duos at 1.3Ghz

All should be Network bootable.

-please let me know if I should post this else-where.

Thanks!

Re: top panel missing!

Just remove or comment out the line that starts lxpanel from the Auto Started Applications (openbox's autostart.sh)

Re: top panel missing!

Thanks for the tip.  Again apologies for asking what is probably an obvious question. No doubt I will have many more.

Thanks again!

Re: top panel missing!

For me it was the bottom panel ... this fixed it as well. What makes them go away? It seemd that all I did was log out and back in and poof it was gone ...
