Epic fail, proprietary Catalyst driver for slitaz 4.0

So iguess no one has gotten the catalyst driver working in slitaz, this is sad news

i have been trying all the ways from here to sunday without luck sad

Probebly couse slitaz dont have the same filestructure as some other dists (but i may be wrong)

- tried install tazpkg from 3.0 (as a test)        - FAIL

- tried convert packages from other dists          - FAIL

- tried download from amd.com and install          - FAIL

im at a loss, now i really dont know how to sort this out, must be more then me

who needs the ATI proprietary linux driver?

Could we all if any else but me help eachother with tests, configs etc?

Re: Epic fail, proprietary Catalyst driver for slitaz 4.0

You know, I've been trying not to be a dick on the forums. Posts that are clearly trollish like this one really test me...

File structure is standard. It won't work otherwise. Even paths we don't use is included in the PATH veriable.

Do not blame SliTaz for ATI's messed up driver compatibility and requirements. With it either the Linux and xorg versions are too low or too high or the card is too new or too old to compile drivers. Check the minimum requirements for the driver and if it's compatible with your card or if they stripped support for it recently.

Re: Epic fail, proprietary Catalyst driver for slitaz 4.0

i didnt blame slitaz i love slitaz.

My graphic "Cards" are up to spec and work on all other linux dists with the driver from

amd.com

And i do not post "trollish posts" but im getting frustrated as i love this linux dist

its my favourit linux out there, if it wasnt i wouldnt post here at all,

So im sorry if you thought is was trollish that wasnt my point or ever will be my point

so to clearify the driver from amd.com works on debian, ubuntu, fedora, puppy and tiny

what i have tried to do is convert packages where convertion was possible

why i get frustrated is all about myself couse i cant figure it out why it fails

thats why i ask for help from others using ati cards with their slitaz dist and possible using the catalyst driver.

so far i have tried it on radeon 2400xt radeon hd 5470, radeon 6870 with no luck

however i get it working with opensource driver (which doesnt work with most games requiring new drivers, new feaures from OpenGL)

So trix if you think im just naggin on slitaz i dont, i simply stated what i have tried

and what i did was a epic fail.

I would never blame slitaz it self couse its simple the best fastest etc linux out in the universe!

btw i said in a previus post i was taking slitaz to dreamhack 2012 to show of what a great dist it is.

Ztealmax

I sympathise with your frustrations.

Driver-wise I am non-technical and generally research and experiment to get things to work.

Getting ATI drivers to work with linux can be very easy or sometimes very difficult.

There are often hassles and upgrading problems due to the fact that correct operation is influenced by:

1. Linux Kernel.

2. Xorg Foundation.

3. ATI drivers.

As Trixar_za rightly points out, it is not the fault of Slitaz.

I have 3 x HD3450 ATI graphics cards and I successfully ran triple monitors (1680x1050) on 3 computers with Xubuntu for nearly 3 years.

I am very busy for another week or two and will not have time to experiment and help test until I am less busy.

Currently I am using NVIDIA twinview with PCLOS Openbox Bonsai, this is because I started having problems with troublesome installation of ATI drivers about 9 months ago.

I will report back here when I have several free days to experiment and help test.

Good Luck.

So, ztealmax (Martin Svensson) killed his account, and unsubscribed (I guess) from mail list. So sad...

He comes and goes from my experience. He does have a way of rubbing me the bad way sometimes, but yeah, it's always sad to lose an active users, even if he wasn't always helpful. Some of his request however were challenging, which does appeal to me.
