Re: Login Password

OK

I have to say

root

and then root?

Sometimes it worked

but not always.

There was written to say

su then root

or

tux then root

is this wrong?

Re: Login Password

user root have password root

user tux have empty password

To become super user you have to press in console or in terminal:

su [enter]

root [enter]

root [enter]

Re: Login Password

"Who is user (tux) and who is super user (root)" is a base knowledge. Please, find good book for linux newbies and read it.

User "just works" in the system: listen music, surf web, watch videos, type office documents...

Super user do the administrative job for the "just user" have ability to "just work": partitiong disks, install system, upgrade packages, install hardware and drivers, manage users, clean system...

Bad doing can break whole system, so root job is very important. User can't break whole system, he have no permission and can break only own home folder, and root can repair it.

And now, your 'kill' command.

If you are user, and you have permission to run firefox, then you have permission to kill firefox. It's no need to became root. But you can.

If you are root and you run firefox, then only root can kill firefox, but user can't.

There is a difference.
